Job Title: Data Analyst/Modeler Location : Houston, Texas Duration: 6-month contract (possibility extension of conversion) Client: Occidental Petroleum Interview Process: Video Schedule: Tuesday - Thursday onsite, Monday and Friday remote/work from home Job Description: Technical Skills: Data Analyst, SQL, Python, AWS Domain: Oil & Gas operational knowledge, Preferred would be Upstream Support Data Management & Analytics reporting, analytics, planning, root cause analysis, and process improvements with industry and corporate o&g operation datasets. Develop innovative analytic solutions, while creating actionable insights and driving decisions. Formulate hypothesis, develop queries and models to evaluate hypotheses and formulate solutions to drive process and performance improvement within various operations life-cycle stages. Collaborate and educate stakeholders while supporting data governance Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with corporate departments, stakeholders, peers, and partner Develop data management frameworks to properly tag and manage curated data assets, promoting reuse and avoiding a data swamp Partner with IT support to evaluate, prioritize, and develop data management supporting applications. Work with internal customers/partners to gather requirements, build, and deploy robust models. Work with the business and application designers to identify and model integrative views of data and determine the quality of service requirements (data currency, availability, response times, and data volumes). Loading and transforming sets of structured, semi structured and unstructured data. Own data QA, ensuring precise, unique, and fresh data is available to multiple business teams Ad Hoc data requests for business team members Reverse-engineer & document legacy ETL code for maintainability. Manage related metadata to include business descriptions of the data, details of any calculations and summaries, descriptions of the sources, and indications of data quality and currency. Aid in the analysis of data and analytics security requirements and solutions. Work with the security team to ensure that enterprise data and analytics assets are treated as protected assets. Record how data is moved around the virtual enterprise, including frequency of movement, source and destination of each step, transformation, and any aggregation or calculations. Recommend any opportunities for efficiencies and improvement of data quality. Provide leadership to the data management team on a continual basis on emerging trends and best practices. Qualifications Bachelors degree, or foreign degree equivalent, in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Engineering (any) or a related field and 3 years of progressively responsible post-bachelors degree related experience. Experience in Oil and Gas operations and terminology Strong hands-on skills and deep knowledge of SQL, Stored Procedure, and advanced SQL in Data Warehousing environment The position also requires 3 years of experience in data analysis using tools such as Excel, Tableau, SQL, SAS Suite, MSSQL Server and Oracle 3 years of experience in reporting using tools such as Tableau, Excel, Oracle, SQL, and PowerBI 3 years of experience in business intelligence using Tableau, Excel, Spotfire, and PowerBI Experience in building ETL / data warehouse transformation processes Familiarity with best practices in development of data warehousing Deep knowledge of ETL pipelines, data warehouse management, and data governance Experience in data strategies, data analysis, database architecture and management, development or administration and relevant data processing, systems analysis/design, and 2-3 years of experience developing/maintaining database objects in one of the database systems or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired. Knowledge and experience with the definition and design of logical data models and data structures including data and model normalization Knowledge of the different types of data models (conceptual through physical) and their usages and business value Ability to translate business requirements into ETL technical requirements Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) beneficial Advanced SQL skills in the methods of stored procedures, functions, triggers, indexes, and security Python Familiarity with RPA methods Excellent communication and presentation skills. Ability to interact and collaborate effectively across many disciplines and departments. Critical thinker and challenges the status quo. Problem solver with an ability to analyze and recommend solutions on projects with a high degree of uncertainty.
