Requirement // AWS Architect // Contract // Seattle, WA -- Local Only at Seattle, Washington, USA |

Role: AWS Architect Local to Seattle, WA (x2 onsite/week) Type: Contract Expectations gap: I expect an architect to speak more clearly about their designs than he did and to mention that skill when I ask him about his strengths. I agree with Michelle's point about his tone. Additionally noted that he would say one thing to leadership then keep doing what he wanted to do, which in some cases could work but when it's me, Michelle, or the rest of the actual team disagreeing, I don't want him spinning his wheels on something everyone else agrees is not the right path. Need to be local to Seattle and in office 2 days x week. Team and Project: Running Cloud Foundations, AWS/Azure core infra, mainly focused on policy/governance, self service automation, building DevOps pipelines for AWS/and Azure to automatically sping up accounts and prescriptions. Goal, give a fully blown account subscriptions, they manage users, services, catalog, self-service infra and guardrails around what they can and cannot do. Experience setting up that infrastructure: Opps Sec, CyberSec DevOps, that overlap, seeing with India recruiting, and Bharath's team but NO previous background working in infra, governance and large-scale cloud subscriptions. 100, azure subscriptions on those accounts. Working at that scale is a big deal, it's a lot. No clear line between engineers building pipelines and supporting infra, asking everyone to be doing everything. "Operational support" and technical capabilities Big projects looking at: Re-pipelining from GitHub/Jenkins, to Gitlab Initiate those Terraform builds to get on AWS, Asset, and key rotation. GitLab is the big piece for net new development work. Wants people managing 100% of resources through Terraform, Cloud Formation and Configuration You are deploying configuration. Patching with SSM System Manager in AWS, using Cloud Configuration tools, managing at global policy levels. All of things Everything is managing centrally by updated the code. Security is a huge focus of the larger cloud infra team, lots of security and changes coming down, security overriding needs and requirements. Allowing them to operate in that world. Engineers who are not averse to that level of tightening. AWS/Azure CLI IAM/PAM, working with SecOps to come up with what those policies are, accessing services and catalog available, deploying as a primary IAM/cannot overrule those guardrails. Deploying with Terraform Titles: Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, Cloud DevOps Infra, but something like SecOps or DevSecOps, someone leaning more into policy generation and things as part of IaC. "Self-service" "Automation" and things "more setting up pipeline where they can deploy code." Hard spot, process work that needs to be done. Not a well-oiled machine, it's running at this point. Not wanting to bring so many new people into a mess, but the team is understaffed. ***need an Architect who is hands-on in designing AWS platforms. The biggest key to focus on is someone with "Enterprise cloud management" so they have worked on large orgs with lots of accounts/subscriptions.
