Job Description: As a Palo Alto Firewall Engineer, you will play a critical role in managing and optimizing our Palo Alto Networks firewall infrastructure to ensure the security and integrity of our network environment. Leveraging your expertise in Palo Alto firewalls, you will lead efforts to identify and remediate security risks, optimize firewall configurations, and implement best practices for firewall design and management. Key Responsibilities: Identify and remove unused firewall rules to improve performance and reduce security risks. Convert layer 4 rules to layer 7 to enhance visibility and control over application traffic. Review and correct improperly configured security subscriptions, such as threat prevention and URL filtering. Analyze outbound server ACLs to identify required outbound application ID ACLs (e.g., Tanium, S1, Microsoft) and ensure proper traffic filtering. Draft and submit Firewall Rule Base (FRB) requests to correct identified issues and ensure compliance with security policies. Communicate cleanup actions and recommendations with security and network services teams to coordinate remediation efforts. Work independently in a staff augmentation model, taking ownership of assigned tasks and delivering results with minimal supervision. Provide technical guidance and security policy recommendations regarding firewall design best practices and configuration standards. Mentor junior engineers and provide training on Palo Alto Networks technologies and methodologies. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field; relevant certifications (e.g., PCNSE, CISSP) preferred. 5+ years of hands-on experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls, including configuration, management, and troubleshooting. In-depth knowledge of Palo Alto firewall features and capabilities, including security policies, NAT, VPN, App-ID, and User-ID. Experience identifying and remediating security risks, optimizing firewall rulesets, and implementing security best practices. Strong understanding of network protocols, routing, switching, and security principles. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex security issues and develop effective solutions. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
