Database Administrator II Location Remote Contract Length : 6 month contract to hire Video interview USC only Active LinkedIn Notes: Fully remote- est time zone or Central SQL DBA On prim moving to cloud SSRS/ SSIS a plus Culture- strict deadlines, busy work load Must have strong internal communication Flexible with if needed working late Avg is 40 hour work week Nonprofit company Currently a team of 3 working with two other DBAs 5 years of experience if possible Job Description Database Administrator II Position Overview The Database Administrator II is responsible for developing, optimizing, and supporting SQL systems utilized in custom application development, 3rd party product integrations and line of business applications. This position will report to the Assistant Director, Enterprise Data & BI. Essential Functions Partner with IT application architects, data architects, and infrastructure architects to plan and meet corporate SQL standards and business goals. Develop database solutions to support web based, high volume transaction applications. Work with IT to ensure compliance with corporate policy. Build and maintain moderately complex stored procedures in collaboration with .NET programmers. Develop data extracts from existing SQL databases, backup and recovery of database sites and utilization of https, IIS, Windows, and .NET programming techniques. Administer Windows 2016 and newer and SQL Server 2016 and newer platforms. Migration of systems from SQL 2012 and 2016 to newer editions. Migration of On-Premises systems and application databases to Azure IaaS or PaaS. Monitor and maintain all SQL instances and databases to maximize system availability. Quickly diagnose and resolve any issues as they arise. Provide support as required by application owners. Develop, test, document, and implement high quality SQL database solutions including SQL Stored Procedures and SSIS Packages on time and in accordance with specifications and supporting documents. Configure and install Microsoft SQL Server (including log shipping, database mirroring, and AlwaysOn Availability Group setup) in both on premises and Azure cloud environments. Proactively analyze performance of stored procedures, queries, and reports including plan analysis, index recommendations and database server configuration to take actions to correct any discrepancies. Provide troubleshooting and resolution of support issues. Provide consultation for the evaluation of SQL and Data Systems. Provide the implementation and deployment of SQL solutions. Perform data migrations using T-SQL, SSIS or another package. Create and develop SQL scripts to execute data test strategies to verify enhancements meet business requirements and data is at an acceptable quality threshold. Establish, maintain, and follow group procedures and policies related to the SQL Server environment, including installation, configuration, backup, disaster recovery, and other such operations. Provide ongoing status report updates for current projects. Participate in on-call schedule for 24 x 7 x 365 support. Work with IT counterparts and management team to employ analysis and design techniques including database schema design to ensure business goals. Develop and manage effective working relationships with other departments, groups, or personnel with whom work must be coordinated. Participate in systems development lifecycle stages including architecture specifications and design; application configuration; database design; programming; quality assurance; testing and implementation; and ongoing maintenance and support. Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as, meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrates respect for others. Play a critical role in SUFS data operations strategy transformation journey towards unstructured data. Minimum Qualifications Minimum of 4 to 5 years as a database administrator with three plus years SQL Server 2016 and newer or equivalent combination of experience and education including college courses such as MIS, Computer Science, or related field. Experience must include eight years of SQL OLTP or Data Warehouse development experience including T-SQL, MDX, SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS, developing and delivering database solutions in an enterprise environment. Certifications in MCTS (Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist), MCSA (Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate) or MCSE (Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert) in SQL Server / Data Platform is a plus. Experience working with Azure SQL databases, managed instances, stretched databases, data lakes, and log analytics is a plus. Experience working with AWS QLDB is a plus. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in database administration involving management of multiple SQL databases in a highly dynamic environment. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong experience with performance tuning on MS SQL Server, experience with data integrity, data retention, data analysis and data input/output processing and improving SQL code performance efficiency. Knowledge of SQL Utilities (BCP, DTS, SSIS-2016+, SSAS, Power BI, etc.). Experience supporting database access from large scale .NET based windows, web, web services and RESTful API applications. Experience with creation and implementation of fully functional SQL Server databases, ability to maintain multiple development and QA SQL Server environments. Experience with Replication, Clustering, Always On and other HA architectures. Advanced knowledge of T-SQL and ability to write stored procedures, UDFs and triggers, debugging and performance tuning stored procedures, index analysis; various monitoring and tuning tools such as Profiler, Spotlight, advanced installation and configuration procedures and data normalization. Experience with Version Control Systems such as Microsoft Team Foundation Server or other comparable systems. Proven competence with partitioning, advanced queuing, cursors, etc. Must have basic working knowledge of hardware, networking and SQL Server connectivity and the tools needed to troubleshoot and diagnose issues with them. Team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to take initiative, exercise good judgment and exhibit business savvy orientation.
