Google Cloud Engineer 6 months Remote (Must be local to Massachusetts) Phone/Skype They must have Google Cloud Engineering experience NOT a devops engineer but a GCP Engineer We are seeking an experienced cloud engineer who has expertise in the strategy, design, development, and implementation of large-scale projects in the cloud. The ideal candidate will have a firm grasp of emerging technologies, platforms, and applications and an ability to customize them to help our team become more secure and efficient. Extensive knowledge of cloud maintenance, and advanced industry knowledge are essential to keep us on the cutting edge. The cloud engineer will have an immediate impact on the day-to-day efficiency of our IT operations. Responsibilities: At the direction of lead architects, develop and implement technical efforts to design, build, and deploy GCP applications, including large-scale data processing, computationally intensive statistical modelling, and advanced analytics. Participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle for GCP solutions, including planning, requirements, development, testing, and quality assurance. Troubleshoot incidents, identify root causes, fix and document problems, and implement preventive measures. Educate teams on the implementation of new cloud-based initiatives, providing associated training when necessary. Demonstrate exceptional problem-solving skills, with an ability to see and solve issues before they affect business productivity. Terraform Management: Utilize Terraform for infrastructure as code (IaC) to provision, manage, and orchestrate GCP resources efficiently. Looker Upgrades: Oversee and implement upgrades to Looker, ensuring seamless integration with GCP services and maintaining optimal performance. VM Configurations: Configure and manage virtual machines (VMs) on GCP, focusing on optimal setup, scalability, and security. Security Configurations: Implement and maintain rigorous security configurations, including IAM & Admin Security practices, to protect data and applications. Administrative Functions: Perform administrative tasks across GCP services, ensuring smooth operation and compliance with best practices. App Configuration: Configure and manage applications within GCP, ensuring they are optimized for performance and scalability. Load Balancing: Implement and manage load balancing strategies to ensure high availability and fault tolerance across applications and services. Networking: Design and manage VPC networks, ensuring secure and efficient connectivity within GCP. Product Failure Response: Respond swiftly to product failures, identifying root causes and implementing solutions to prevent future occurrences. Troubleshooting: Provide expert troubleshooting for a wide range of issues within GCP, ensuring minimal downtime. Dataflow SDK: Utilize and update Dataflow SDK for data processing tasks, enhancing data ingestion and processing performance. API Management: Develop and manage APIs, facilitating seamless integration between GCP services and external applications. Ingestion Performance: Optimize data ingestion processes to ensure timely and accurate data availability. Key Management: Manage cryptographic keys and security settings using GCP's Key Management Service to protect data and access. Logging: Implement and manage logging mechanisms, creating and monitoring logs to ensure system integrity and compliance. Required skills and qualifications: 6 or more years of experience in designing, developing, and implementing cloud solutions on GCP or AWS platform. Hands-on experience managing GCP key components like Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Cloud Run, VPC, Pub/Sub Cloud Monitoring, deployment manager and Compute engine. Experience in Cloud migration activities i.e. On-Prem to Cloud and Cloud Provider to Cloud provider. Skills in Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform. Understanding of and experience with the five pillars of a well-architected framework Experience with continuous integration/continuous development (Cl/CD) practices. Experience in several of the following areas: database architecture, ETL, business intelligence, big data, machine learning, advanced analytics. Proven ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of business analysts, developers, data scientists, and subject-matter experts.
