They are bringing this contractor on while they continue to search for an FTE.  Contractor can be a remote worker,

This is really an engineer level person.  Need experience architecting and designing solutions, not just pure admin work.

Will work with end users to gather requirements for new systems.

Should have experience in capacity and performance management, designing for high availability and how to harden systems.

Experience in mitigating security risks.

Should have experience in larger enterprise with at least 500 concurrent users, and understand the consequences of down time.  Will be expect4ed to help resolve the most complex of problems, which will involve knowledge of networking and other IT function outside of Linux.

Needs strong communication skills wand ability to interact with end users.

Must be available for after hours support, but there are not a lot of calls

Responsibilities

Systems installation & administration of physical and virtual servers across multiple Linux distros and release versions

Manage & maintain system images, snapshots & other virtual configurations as directed by technical leadership

Configure, maintain, manage & troubleshoot advanced configurations for supported systems, which may involve:

system performance tuning, clustering, file systems, hardware, OS kernel, DNS, IP stack, network attached storage & SAN, virtual networking, Windows AD integration, LDAP integration & other advanced configuration items

Monitor system performance, to identify and correct performance issues

Manage & maintain configuration management systems, such as Puppet, and/or Ansible for continuous sustainment of the operating environment

Utilize shell and utility scripting (e.g., bash, Perl, Python, PowerShell) to optimize & automate standard administration tasks

Regularly audit & validate configuration of systems within any guidelines provided by leadership

Attend meetings, participate in conference calls and respond to ticket requests to ensure the highest standards in customer support

Work with leadership & teammates to develop and/or maintain systems documentation in support of system builds, application installs & other operations procedures

Assist with security audits & work with staff to remediate any & all security findings with supported systems & applications

Ability to work from home including facilitating incident calls, monitoring processes, and able to respond to phone calls from remote sites

Identify root cause analysis and remediate reoccurring Linux operating issues

Create and provide reports describing operational performance of Linux environments. Identify appropriate targets as key performance indicators of Linux system health and provide recommendations regarding problem resolution in cases where targets are being approached (best case) or are exceeded (worst case)

Operate as an escalation point on Linux issues

Provide 24x7 IT operations support on an on-call basis

Comply with and execute STERIS change management processes

Collaborate effectively within systems administrative team and across functional teams to resolve issues, make design changes, and ensure the Linux systems environment is running effectively.

Required Knowledge and Experience

Experience working in large, enterprise environments, including managing Linux systems related to Oracle and SAP applications and databases

Knowledge and hands-on experience working with various Linux distros (Oracle Enterprise Linux, RHEL, SUSE, CentOS)

Knowledge and experience with SAN Fabric Technologies in a Linux environment

Knowledge and experience in administrating applications operating within clustered environments in a Linux/Solaris environment

Knowledge and Experience Ability writing technical design and build documentation for all aspects of Linux infrastructure

Experience in system monitoring tools and techniques for supporting Linux operations, alerting, and remediation

Desired Knowledge and Experience

Experience with Sun Solaris

RHV or KVM virtualization

Experience with Ansible or comparable configuration management tools

Experience with virtualization on Hyper-V, VMWare and/or Nutanix in complex, distributed or clustered environments

LEAN methodology

Familiarity and working knowledge of popular cloud infrastructure providers

High level of technical expertise to support complex infrastructure solutions across all tiers, under minimal supervision

Strong hands-on technical professional with business acumen

Experience developing Linux system procedures and best practices standards
