Code management and documentation Description This App Developer role at the Genomics Research Center involves creating and maintaining interactive Shiny applications for genomics data analysis and visualization. The developer is expected to work closely with researchers and domain experts to understand their data needs and translate them into user-friendly applications. This role requires proficiency in the R programming language and familiarity with genomics data formats. Additionally, a strong understanding of database queries, data visualization libraries, and statistical methods commonly used in genomics research is essential. The developer will also be responsible for testing the applications to ensure their functionality and reliability. Utilization of version control systems and best practices for software development is also expected. Responsibilities Develop and maintain Shiny applications that query, retrieve, and insert Genomics data into databases, ensuring data integrity, security, and performance. Collaborate with researchers and domain experts to understand their data analysis and visualization needs and translate them into interactive and user-friendly Shiny applications. Create interactive visualizations using appropriate libraries and tools, showcasing Genomics data in an intuitive and informative manner. Implement and optimize database queries to efficiently retrieve and manipulate large volumes of Genomics data, ensuring responsiveness and scalability of the applications. Conduct thorough testing of applications to ensure their functionality, reliability, and usability, and provide support and troubleshooting assistance to end-users as needed. Requirements Proficiency in R programming language and Shiny framework, with a strong understanding of interactive web application development. Preference for candidates with additional web application development experience, e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Flask, Django. Experience in querying and manipulating databases using SQL, particularly for Genomics data. Familiarity with Genomics data formats (e.g., BAM, VCF) and an understanding of their structure and content. Knowledge of and ability to work with Genomics analysis tools and pipelines, such as variant callers and alignment algorithms. Expertise in data visualization libraries and tools, such as reactable, datatable, ggplot2, plotly, or D3.js, to create interactive visualizations for Genomics data. Understanding of statistical methods commonly used in Genomics research, and ability to apply them in data analysis and visualization. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot issues with data integration, data quality, and performance optimization. Familiarity with version control systems, such as Git, to manage codebase and collaborate with other developers and researchers. Knowledge of best practices for software development, including code documentation, testing, and modular design. Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively collaborate with researchers and domain experts to understand their requirements and translate them into functional applications.
