Your expertise will drive actionable insights from telemetry data, helping to optimize system performance, and enhancing the overall observability of our data ecosystem. You will be part of a new team in the Data Engineering organization at the intersection of governance, operations, and process. The ideal candidate is a change agent that can work in collaboration and support of global cross-functional teams utilizing a mix of technical expertise, analytical skills, and ability to educate others. Tool and Process Implementation: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and maintain observability tools. Work alongside our Information Warehouse team to enhance our standard platform tools to provide comprehensive visibility into system behavior. Develop and configure dashboards, alerts, and monitoring solutions. Ensure seamless integration of observability practices into our data pipelines and workflows. Ongoing Operations: Monitor data pipelines, services, and applications to proactively identify anomalies and performance bottlenecks. Investigate incidents, troubleshoot issues, and optimize system performance. Continuously refine and improve observability practices based on real-time data and feedback. Collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, and platform operations teams to maintain a robust and reliable data ecosystem. Duties & Responsibilities: Monitoring and Alerting: Work alongside technical teams to configure observability tools to monitor data pipelines, services, and applications using observability tools (e.g., Monte Carlo, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk). Set up alerts for critical metrics (e.g., latency, error rates, resource utilization) to proactively identify issues. Partner with the platform operations team to provide intelligence to enable prompt response to alerts, investigation of anomalies. Identify patterns, trends, and anomalies in log data that will inform new requirements to support platform operations. Monitor resource utilization (CPU, memory, storage) and predict capacity needs, working alongside platform operations team to optimize resource allocation and scale infrastructure based on workload demands. Support platform operations with incident response and root cause analysis where appropriate noting observability blind spots that are new feature candidates. Dashboard Creation and Maintenance: Design and create dashboards to visualize system health, performance, and key metrics. Customize dashboards based on specific use cases (e.g., real-time data processing, batch jobs, machine learning pipelines). Maintain a backlog and regularly update and refine dashboards to reflect changing requirements from both engineering colleagues and data and analytics stakeholders in the enterprises and functions. Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about industry trends and best practices related to observability. Propose and implement enhancements to observability practices. Collaborate with data engineers and platform operations teams to improve system reliability. Documentation and Training: Maintain documentation for observability processes, tools, and configurations. Train team members on observability practices and tool usage. Foster a culture of observability awareness within the organization. Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in computer science, information technology, computer science, data and analytics, or related study. Experience: 4+ years of experience in data engineering and or implementing, managing observability tools and practices. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field. Strong understanding of data pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and distributed systems. Proficiency in using observability tools such as Monte Carlo, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or Datadog. Experience with data cataloging solutions such as Alation, Collibra, Informatica, etc Experience with designing and using Data Contracts preferred Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and tracing techniques. Experience with Agile/Dev Ops methodologies and tools such as Jira and Azure Dev Ops Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Deep knowledge of observability best practices and industry trends. Knowledge of enterprise information management processes and methodologies. Proficiency in understanding modern data architectures and concepts such as cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP), real-time data distribution (Kafka, Dataflow), and modern data warehouse tools (Snowflake, Databricks) Knowledge of master data, metadata, reference data, data warehousing, database structure, and business intelligence principles and processes, including technical architecture Strong analytical skills to interpret telemetry data and identify patterns. Excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams both written and oral. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. Problem-solving mindset and a passion for continuous improvement. Data Engineering skills or advanced SQL knowledge. Ability to effectively facilitate conversations across diverse groups Good stakeholder presentation / demo skills.
