Cloud Database Engineer Client: Amex Location: Phoenix, AZ 85054 - Remote for contract period. Must relocate to Phoenix the end of the contract for a hybrid (3 days onsite- flexible days) schedule. Most Preferred - USC Qualifications: Bachelors degree preferred. Desirable technical experience for relational technologies including: Postgres, Oracle, or equivalent relational database technology. GoldenGate or similar logical database replication technology. HA and GDHA using Patroni or similar technology. Terraform, Python or Ansible Database technology infrastructure including storage, hardware, backup/recovery, monitoring/alerting, security. Desirable technical experience for NoSQL technologies including: AWS DynamoDB, GCP Firestore and/or BigTable. HA and GDHA using multiple cloud availability zones and regions. Terraform, Python or Ansible Cloud database technology infrastructure including storage, hardware, backup/recovery, monitoring/alerting, security. Additional desirable attributes: Skill at the Unix command line The ability to write code or script, e.g. for test harnesses or other database-related tools and utilities. Experience as a database administrator and/or a Unix system administrator. Knowledge of virtualization and cloud infrastructures, and of implementations such as VMWare, OpenShift, Kubernetes and Docker. Knowledge of modern storage and compute technologies, including hyper-converged infrastructures. Focus on: AWS- Aurora Postgres and DynamoDB GCP- AlloyDB, Cloud SQL for Postgres, and Spanner with Postgres dialect Need to supplement and grow their engineering team. Ideal candidate: Experience spinning up Aurora Postgres database clusters that are being reused by some application somewhere in a company or some AlloyDB, Cloud SQL databases or any databases of these types for a real company and applications are connected to them and used on their regular production workloads. Need to figure out how to set up Dynamo cluster: Know how big to make it Is there a way to make it automatically resilient across geographic regions How many geographic regions can we pick How do you back it up Can you set up automatic recurring batch jobs to back it up every day Hands on person who can go into the cloud console and fire up any database of one of these types and teach developers how to use it, set up recovery of it, etc. Knows when to use one database versus another. Know what to use Bigtable versus Firestore. What kind of applications should use one versus the other. Cloud certifications: Cloud AWS Associate Engineer Certification AWS or GCP Data Certification GCP Professional Data Engineer Certification GCP Professional Database Engineer AWS Database/Data related certifications Experience with AWS and GCP is a slamdunk, but if candidates have experience on one side or the other, they can train on the other side. Differentiator capabilities in a candidate: Cloud certification Hands on UNIX experience R&D mindset/ exploratory nature Desire to learn and try new things!
