Role: Senior z/OS Storage and Backup System Engineer Location: Remote. Duration: Contract Job Description: Job Overview: In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the design, configuration, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of storage and backup solutions on the z/OS platform, including virtual tape, storage (DASD), storage management, and disaster recovery. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements, provide technical leadership, and drive initiatives to enhance the performance, reliability, and security of our mainframe storage systems. Responsibilities: 1. Design, deploy, and maintain storage and backup solutions on the z/OS platform, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and reliability. 2. Manage configuration and optimization of virtual tape, storage (DASD), and replication systems to meet business requirements, capacity needs, and performance objectives. 3. Implement and manage backup and disaster recovery solutions to protect critical data and ensure business continuity. 4. Manage storage resources and capacity, ensuring adequate resources are available to meet current and future needs. 5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications for storage and backup systems. 6. Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to storage and backup systems, including performance bottlenecks, data corruption, and system failures. 7. Implement and enforce security measures to protect stored data and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. 8. Provide mentorship, guidance, and technical expertise to members of the infrastructure, operations, and development teams. 9. Stay current with emerging storage and backup technologies, industry trends, and best practices to continuously improve system performance and efficiency. 10. Develop and maintain documentation, including storage configurations, backup policies, and disaster recovery plans. Qualifications: 1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. 2. Minimum of 10 years of experience in designing, implementing, and supporting storage and backup solutions on the z/OS platform. 3. Demonstrated experience managing and optimizing IBM virtual tape and storage (DASD) systems including IBM Copy Services. 4. Experience with managed service providers, off shore support teams, and data center relocation are a plus. 5. Proficiency in mainframe storage management tools and utilities, including IBM DFSMS and ISMF. 6. Knowledge of storage, backup and disaster recovery best practices and methodologies. 7. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to analyze and resolve complex technical issues. 8. Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 9. Proven leadership abilities, including experience leading technical projects and mentoring junior team members. 10. Relevant certifications (e.g., IBM Certified Specialist - Enterprise Storage Technical Support) preferred.
