Title: Senior z/OS Database System Engineer Work Location: Remote Duration: Long Term Contract Must have: (DB2, IMS/DB, Data Sharing) Job Description: Responsibilities: 1. Design and implement robust and scalable database solutions utilizing DB2, IMS/DB, and data sharing technologies. 2. Manage and optimize database system performance, including monitoring, tuning, and capacity planning, to ensure high availability and responsiveness. 3. Collaborate closely with development, database administration, infrastructure, and architecture teams to understand database requirements and provide effective solutions. 4. Develop and enforce database security policies and procedures to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with regulations. 5. Implement and maintain database system backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and business continuity. 6. Troubleshoot database issues, identify root causes, and implement timely and effective solutions. 7. Document database configurations, processes, and procedures for knowledge sharing and compliance purposes. 8. Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in database management, including data sharing techniques. 9. Provide mentorship, guidance, and technical expertise to members of the operations, database administration and development teams. Qualifications: 1. Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 2. 10 years of experience as a Database System Programmer, System Administrator, or System Engineer, with expertise in DB2, and IMS/DB system administration and programming. 3. Proficiency in DB2 and IMS/DB subsystem/region design, implementation, administration, and security. 4. Experience with managed service providers, off shore support teams, and data center relocation are a plus. 5. Strong understanding of database and database management system performance tuning and optimization with tools like Omegamon and SYSView. 6. Experience with database security concepts, tools, and regulatory compliance. 7. Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex database issues. 8. Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 9. Proven leadership abilities, including experience leading technical projects and mentoring junior team members. 10. Relevant certifications in DB2, or IMS/DB are a plus.
