Title: Cybersecurity Engineer Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid) Top Skills: Multilingual would-be a plus, strong on the networking side, this person needs to wear multiple hats, mostly using tools to do cyber (NOT organic engineering), will respond to alerts, this environment is intel computers, AWS, cyber security awareness training. Position Summary Responsible for planning, designing, building, and integrating tools and systems that are used to protect NDIs network, data, and systems. Develop metrics or procedures for evaluating the effectiveness of the systems and tactics being used, and may also be involved in creating training materials as well as building the infrastructure to support these systems and processes. Essential Accountabilities/Responsibilities Architect, design, implement, and maintain network security controls and countermeasures to ensure the highest level of security/integrity. Perform security system configuration and administration, system updates, policy compliance, and security assessments. Administer authentication and access controls, including provisioning, changes, and deprovisioning of user and system accounts, security/access roles, and access permissions to information assets. Work with senior management to develop and implement a long-term security strategy and develop a roadmap to ensure NDIs information assets are protected. Oversee the evaluation, selection and implementation of information security solutions that are innovative and cost-effective. This includes monitoring and maintaining security systems infrastructure, log management, security information and event management (SIEM) tools, and desktop/endpoint security solutions. Manage regular intrusion detection and vulnerability reporting and coordination of all required fixes. Develop metrics to measure the effectiveness of the security programs implemented at the Institute. Monitor the industry and external environment for emerging threats and advise NDI management on appropriate courses of action. Respond to information system security incidents, including investigation of, countermeasures to, and recovery from computer-based attacks, unauthorized access, and policy breaches; interact and coordinate with third-party incident responders, including law enforcement. Peripheral Accountabilities/Responsibilities (Non-essential) Stay abreast of the latest technological tools and trends in the marketplace. Share expertise, and best practices with internal clients, peers, and others as appropriate. Research and advise on evolving solutions to technical challenges. Follow documented Technology policies and procedures. Support and advise management of individual programs. Assist in after-hours requests as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Parameters The incumbent will operate under general direction, plans or coordinated work in accordance with established objectives. The incumbent serves as a resource and provides guidance to lower-level staff. The incumbent regularly interacts with staff at all levels within NDI. The incumbent interacts with NDI partners, vendors/contractors, and other stakeholders. Education BS/BA in Information Science, Computer Science/Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience. Experience Minimum of five years with network and cyber security protocols, systems administration experience in a structured work environment, professional or related setting. Network experience on Palo Alto, Meraki, AWS, and Azure is a plus. Experience and working knowledge of cloud technologies, including architecture design, security, monitoring, reporting, and analyzing logs (eg: AWS, Azure, Google, etc). Skills Strong knowledge of digital security principles in project design needed including network and software risk assessment; understanding of vulnerability/penetration testing and code review. Knowledge of Google Apps (Google Docs, Gmail, Calendar, and Google Drive). Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member. High action orientation with a high level of initiative and a superior level of proficiency in the ability to multitask and prioritize; manage time, perform project management, problem-solving, and organizational skills; and flexibility to adapt and respond to shifting priorities. Excellent analytical and judgment skills for identifying problems, drawing conclusions, determining options for resolution, and recommending next steps. Resourceful through technology, research skills, and relationship-building among several organization teams and professional organizations. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and project a professional image when giving and taking information in writing, in person, and through various communication media. Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity to interact effectively and diplomatically with individuals at all levels of the organization, as well as externally both domestically and internationally with NDI partners, and other stakeholders.
