Job Title: Linux Administrator

Location: Houston, TX (Onsite)

Duration : 6-12 months



Job Summary:

As a Linux Administrator, you will be responsible for managing our Linux infrastructure and tools within the

ecosystem & Kubernetes Cluster. You will play a critical role in our data team, ensuring the high availability,

performance, and security of our data solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Install, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems and related software.

Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability and reliability of Linux
[1]based infrastructure (including HPC and OpenShift platforms).

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement Linux-based solutions that meet

business needs.

Implement and maintain security measures to protect Linux systems from unauthorized access and

ensure compliance with industry regulations.

Perform regular system backups and disaster recovery procedures to minimize data loss and maintain

business continuity.

Automate system administrative tasks using scripting languages such as Bash or Python to streamline

processes and improve efficiency.

Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls to ensure proper system security and data

integrity.

Install, configure, and maintain network services, including DNS, DHCP, and authentication services like

OpenLDAP/AD.

Collaborate with software developers and system analysts to troubleshoot and resolve software

compatibility issues on Linux platforms.

Evaluate and recommend hardware and software upgrades to improve system performance and

scalability.

Perform cluster maintenance tasks such as patching, upgrades, and migrations, applying best practices for

minimal downtime.

Implement, administer, and manage on-premises, cloud-agnostic & cloud-native Big Data technologies

and container orchestration systems such as Kubernetes (OpenShift or equivalent).

Ensure the efficient functioning of Kubernetes Clusters that handle large-scale data processing, storage,

and analytics workloads, optimizing for performance, reliability, and scalability.

Monitor system performance actively, tune system settings, and carry out capacity planning to meet

service level agreements (SLAs).

Enforce security policies and compliance standards within the Kubernetes infrastructure.

Write and maintain advanced scripts in Shell, Basic Python for automation and routine task management.

Implement, configure, and manage Ceph as a distributed storage solution for Kubernetes (OpenShift)

ensuring efficient handling of storage needs.

Utilize OpenShift Virtualization to deploy and manage virtual machines alongside container workloads in a

Kubernetes environment.

Classification: Internal Use

Plan and execute system backups and recovery strategies to maintain data safety and high service

availability.

Document system configurations, maintain standard operating procedures, and manage version control

for infrastructure changes.

Liaise with software vendors for technical support, ensuring service standards and levels are maintained.

Responsible for the implementation, management, and troubleshooting of Kerberos authentication

protocol within the big data ecosystem to ensure secure access control across all nodes and services. This

includes configuring Kerberos principals, keytab files, and managing Kerberos tickets.

You will also be expected to keep the Kerberos infrastructure updated and secure, and work closely with

the security team to audit and improve authentication measures regularly.

Ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data by implementing industry-standard

encryption methods. This includes configuring TLS (Transport Layer Security) for data in transit to protect

data as it travels across the network and managing encryption for data at rest to prevent unauthorized

access. The role also involves regular audits, developing, and maintaining security policies, and

procedures for data encryption, as well as performing vulnerability assessments and remediation.

Technical Qualifications:

Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems, including RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu, or SUSE.

Proficient in Linux command-line interface (CLI) and shell scripting.

Experience with virtualization technologies, such as VMware or KVM.

Familiarity with networking concepts, protocols, and services, including TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, and VPN.

Knowledge of storage technologies, such as RAID, SAN, and NAS.

Experience with open-source or commercial HPC Platforms.

Familiarity with Networking Concepts.

Understanding of security best practices and experience in implementing security measures on Linux

systems.

Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to quickly identify and resolve

technical issues.

Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment, collaborating with cross-functional

teams.

Strong communication skills to effectively communicate technical concepts and solutions to technical and

non-technical stakeholders.

Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.

Basic Knowledge of Big-Data.

Strong experience with container orchestration systems like Kubernetes (OpenShift or equivalent).

Basic programming skills in Python.

In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in configuring and managing Kerberos authentication for a

secure big data environment. Proficiency in setting up Kerberos realms, troubleshooting Kerberos

authentication issues, and performing regular security checks and configuration audits.

Strong understanding of encryption protocols and standards for securing data. Experience with

configuring TLS/SSL for data in transit across distributed networks and implementing encryption solutions

for data at rest. Familiarity with key management practices and security compliance requirements for

data protection.

Basic knowledge of Windows-based Servers.

Education:

Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Certifications:

Linux Certified Administrator is must.

Kubernetes certification is optional.

Soft Skills:

Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

Strong communication and collaboration abilities.

Proactive attitude with a willingness to take initiative
