Job Title: Materials Lab Microscopist Type: Contract Location: Auburn Hills, MI (Hybrid) JOB DESCRIPTION: The Chemistry Lab Engineer will coordinate all the activities within the Analytical Chemistry Lab. The responsibilities will include the review of work orders, logging in the test requests, performing the laboratory work, and writing test reports. The candidate will coordinate the inventory of supplies, maintain, and coordinate the calibration of the equipment. They should enjoy working with their hands in a laboratory environment. The candidate should have knowledge for the chemical testing of metallic and organic materials. This would include test methods such as Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, Gel Permeation Chromatography, Thermalgravimetric Analysis, Kinematic Viscosity of fluids, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Melt Flow Analysis, X-Ray Diffraction, Optical Emission Spectroscopy, Carbon/Sulfur analysis of steel, Karl Fischer titration, and density measurements. Knowledge of Scanning Electron Microscopy and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy would be an added plus. - B.S. or advanced degree in Material Science or Metallurgy, or a closely related field, from an ABET Accredited University - minimum 5/8 years of experience working in a materials engineering lab performing metallography using an optical microscope and fracture analysis using scanning electron microscopy. - General understanding of automotive metallic and organic materials and the general function of automotive components. - Experience with lab testing techniques described in the job description. - Good verbal and written communication skills. - Good analytical problem-solving skills.
