I like to think of the EDI Architect as the person that is going to make all your EDI dreams come true. This person will help me review existing systems and determine what will be needed in order to implement a successful EDI system. Some tasks entrusted to them are: Communicate with application teams and stake holders to determine overall intent of EDI. Provide recommendations on software/hardware based on current and expected system loads. Determine communication protocols (internally and externally) to be utilized. Determine which EDI documents should be initially implemented. Assist the EDI Team with administration of EDI IDocs and EDI responsibilities. Assist EDI Team with Disaster Recovery Plan once mapping and or commitment issues do not go as expected. SAP-EDI After design and implementation, the system would be handed off to the EDI Developer/Analyst. They would be responsible for day-to-day support and implementations. Some of the tasks they would typically handle are: Monitoring of the system (typically 24 hours a day) Maintenance of the system. Example: Ensuring backup are occurring and verifying system is current on all patches. Adding new processes, maps, and trading partners to system. Working in partnership with the business to create additional EDI transactions. Perform Gap Analysis between EDI specification and application. Setting up communication channels and performing map testing. EDI Mapper/Analyst*. The Useful Tool . It is common that an EDI Developer will perform mapping tasks in addition to the other listed responsibilities. However I listed the Mapper role separately because it is also common that the mapping work is farmed out to a third party and that a mapper would only be expected to build new maps. As long as you have a well designed requirement document , solid set of specifications, and objectives are defined clearly identified and communicated, the mapper should be successfully.
