Overview:

The new Systems Administrator will work alongside other members of the UC Engineering group to maintain, secure, and migrate common IT applications deployed in a global unified communications infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be tasked to get familiar with existing applications and create a migration plan to new platforms.

The candidate is also expected to document existing and new applications and provide training and support to other technical staff.

Principal Responsibilities:

Support and maintain the current applications by performing regular IT tasks such as backup, upgrade, patch deployment, system monitoring etc.

Work with other engineers and partners to resolve systemic issues.

Create a migration plan to new platforms

Identify and deploy new solutions based on provided requirements and needs.

Create system and network architecture design documentation.

Other Functions:

Attend and participate in internal meetings 

Gain familiarity with the current environment

Perform other role related duties as assigned by manager

Technical Skills:

Extensive experience with Linux operating system. Including scripting and common tools and utilities (grep, awk, tcpdump, vmstat etc.)

Extensive experience with common IT applications, namely DNS, NTP, Email, and web services

In-depth understanding of the following protocols: IP, DNS, NTP, POP3, IMAP, SMTP, HTTPS, and TLS

Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Moderate experience with automation tools, such as Ansible, and at least one scripting language

Good understanding of LAN and WAN technologies, including Ethernet, VLAN and Routing.

Familiarity with some open-source Linux based applications such as Apache, Dovecot, Postfix, and Bind.

Experience with packet analyzers.

Professional Skills:

Ability to take responsibility for completing projects with the least amount of oversight.

Ability to apply judgment, implement solutions, and avoid conflicts in a multi-tasked environment.

Excellent communication skills in all areas including procedural documentation, incident reporting and information relaying.

Team player with the ability to maintain a pleasant personality and a professional demeanor in stressful situations.

Experience and Education:

A degree in Computer Information Systems/Computer Science or equivalent discipline or work experience.

3+ years of telecom experience in VoIP Systems Engineering.

1+ years of hands-on software development or scripting experience.

Expertise in network and system design.
