Job Role: VMWARE Administrator Location : Washington DC/Hybrid role (4 days onsite) Duration: Long term Contract No H1Bs Description Responsible for the overall Virtualization environment design, support, and automation. The role will provide operational support for the existing and future Virtualization and computing. Responsibilities also include designing solutions to support existing and future services and enhance security posture. Design, configure, operate, and perform maintenance on a Hyper Converged Infrastructure (HCI). Responsible for defining the overall structure of the hyper-converged infrastructure, understanding all aspects of each solution component, from both a business and technical point of view. The Administrator will work in the ITSSM, a unit of ITSEN, which caters to a wide range of technical infrastructure services to meet the institution's computing needs. The team provides engineering solutions, architecture integration, and system administration services for backup/restore, HA, and DR, for system resiliency. They also manage software and hardware contracts and maintain business and technical relationships with multiple vendors. Roles and Responsibilities: Essential Job Functions: Configure and manage VMWare vSphere virtual Infrastructure including vCenter, vRealize Operation, and vRealize Automation. Automate processes in the VMWare environment. Design, create, and monitor the implementation of end-to-end Hyper-Converged Infrastructure comprising HCI, backup, storage, automation, and integration with other components (for example UCS Central, UCS Manager, Cisco Intersight) Hands-on experience in VMWare Suite, design, configuration, and administration of components in a large VMware environment cantered around best practices, including vCenter, VMware Update Manager, vCenter Operations Manager, vCenter Orchestrator, vCenter Cloud Automation Centre. Basic understanding of storage products, experience in the configuration & management of Storage Data stores, creation, and upgrade of VMFS partitions & Configuring Storage DRS clusters, RDM configuration & Management. Analyze and troubleshoot on an advanced level, the performance of HCI storage backed ESX infrastructure to determine the proper allocation of ESX resources. Experience and expertise in one or more orchestration engines like vRealize Automation, Ansible, Terraform Troubleshoots production problems like performance, and runtime issues within the virtualization environment. Provide on-call support according to the assigned schedule. Experience in VM template design to leverage vCenter Operations Manager to right-size virtual servers. Experience with server consolidation/virtualization for hardware reduction and site migrations via V2V and P2V. Perform daily monitoring and investigation of the System Log for unusual activities/errors/warnings. Perform production job monitoring for errors. Provide troubleshooting analysis of application problems within the Functional and Development streams. Maintain current and accurate documentation of systems configuration and standard operating procedures. Follow ITIL processes for incident management, change management, and problem management. Perform hardware and software asset management. Selection Criteria: Bachelors degree in computer science or engineering 7+ years of experience working with IT systems. 5+ years of experience working in a VMware Environment, UCS Central, UCS Manager, or Cisco Intersight Experience in VMware vSphere 6.5 or later version. Experience in Backup/HA/DR architecture setup and management. Experience in the use of ITIL processes. Ability to communicate in a clear and concise professional manner, tailored to the appropriate audience, including both verbal and written communications. Ability to lead and work collaboratively within a business unit team and have strong influencing skills. Ability to work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation and may require collaboration across multiple technical teams. Proven track record solving difficult technical problems independently. Experience in PowerCLI scripts. Experience in PowerShell and Python scripting is a plus. Terraform experience is a plus. Certification Requirements: Certification in VMware vSphere technology (preferred) Required Skills/Abilities: Excellent understanding of VMware, Converged Infrastructure, UCS Servers, Pure Storage, IDPA Backup, inter-process communication, devices and device driver functionality, and file system concepts. Following strict procedures in managing mission-critical systems, including access control, data protection, audit compliance, and other security requirements. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
