Job Summary The Software Engineering Director role is a critical leadership role on the Business Enablement Technology (BET) management team. BET is the technology partner for MUFG s businesses in the Americas and works with these businesses to deliver technology solutions to business problems. This role will serve as a close partner to the CIO of BET in terms of creating and executing on a strategic, technical vision for the organization. This role will interact heavily with other Software Engineering Directors in BET as well as with technology peers across the IT Americas organization in infrastructure, architecture, data, cybersecurity, etc. As with other Director roles in BET there will be a heavy component of interaction with business partners. Major Responsibilities Work closely with senior business stakeholders to define strategic technology vision and roadmap that directly supports business goals Work closely with senior business stakeholders to define, evolve, track, and report on business KPIs linked directly to technology deliverables to demonstrate business value delivered Constantly educate senior business stakeholders on technology trends relevant to their industry and line of business to ensure competitive positioning Partner with product teams and business stakeholders to prioritize technology deliverables considering business strategy, cost, available resources, and associated risks and dependencies Liaise, negotiate, and collaborate with partner technology peers and teams in enterprise infrastructure, technology operations, cybersecurity, identity and access management, architecture and data strategy, and technology risk, helping to evolve strategy, policy, and policy implementation where appropriate to better align with business needs and goals Ensure that line-of-business application strategy is aligned to broader technology divisional goals in terms of hygiene, modernization, data/cyber-security, and risk appetite Drive large-scale, global initiatives and partner/negotiate/collaborate with global business stakeholders to deliver working software in phased rollouts across multiple regions and jurisdictions Provide technical vision and guidance to engineering teams and help to propagate and enforce firmwide architectural standards and patterns Provide clear and concise reporting to executive leadership; identify risks or issues early in development lifecycles Consider stakeholder needs and input as well as best practices and insights from industry trends when making strategic decisions Create an environment that fosters communication, transparency, and collaboration both within technology and between technology and business partners Apply both analytical thinking and organizational awareness when solving problems Qualifications Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely-related discipline or equivalent years of work experience Certification on 1 of the major cloud platforms preferrable but not required Minimum of 10-15 years experience as an enterprise business application portfolio owner Technology strategy experience in assessing and comparing vendor solutions, both versus each other and versus internal build options based on architecture, business functionality, cost, extensibility, and supportability Deep experience designing, developing, deploying, and support full-stack, business-facing applications on prem, in private cloud, or on major public cloud platforms Development experience in one of more the following languages on either Windows or Linux OSes: Java/C#, Javascript, Python, C/C++, shell, and associated libraries/frameworks Deep experience designing/building microservices applications leveraging Kubernetes and associated frameworks/tooling Experience building service layers and integrating enterprise applications using SOA, microservices, formal interfaces, and associated protocols/tooling/standards (HTTP/S, REST, Web Services, Swagger, messaging queues, APIs/API gateways, message buses) Execution experience in managing Agile teams using Agile/Scrum/Kanban/Release Train principles to achieve high velocity, incremental deployments Experience building and maintaining clean, efficient, and ever-improving CI/CD pipelines Experience designing both application and enterprise-level data models, data pipelines, and analytics and reporting solutions Experienced in and passionate about managing teams of skilled architects, BAs, and developers in conducting the above activities The typical base pay range for this role is between $193K - $243K depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and location. This role may also be eligible for certain discretionary performance-based bonus and/or incentive compensation.
