Description Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report onsite at the GM Global Technical Center - Cole Engineering Center Podium at least three times per week minimum or other frequency dictated by the business.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will architect, design, lead, and develop high performance back-end services for Vehicle Domain - VCS both on-prem and in the cloud. This role provides an opportunity to work across multiple organizations to develop technical strategy, solutions that meet the requirements of enterprise programs, legacy modernization and truly steering the future of VCS architecture, services, APIs to enable amazing experiences for our customers.

You will also serve as a technical leader, lead, and build complex large-scale services that meets local and global business requirements. You will proactively look for opportunities to collaborate with external teams, technical experts to better our technical solutions as we continue to build new services meeting our modernization strategy. The Staff Software Engineer should understand the value of elegant and maintainable software design, and the importance of building solutions that matter. This role will also serve as a technical leader for a group of strong software engineers with the responsibility to instill best practices for software development and develop robust solutions that follow highest standards leading to smooth production operations. We are pioneers in implementing latest technologies and we need you to ensure we continue this path.

You will be collaborating closely with other staff software engineers, engineering team (software & quality), PMO, Product team to achieve the goals and objectives set forth by our roadmap and stakeholders.
Lead from the front, develop a deep understanding of business strategy & goals, design the technical solutions for new requirements.
Collaborate with stakeholders, technical leaders across organization in the process of defining architecture and developing robust technical solutions.
Be technical SME for VCS microservices, collaborate with rest of the SMEs in the area to make strategic decisions based on business and technical requirements.
Proactively analyze current technology setup, propose solutions to achieve higher performance by leveraging modern technologies. Provide technical leadership in designing, building, and deploying VCS microservices that are highly scalable.
Analyze high impact, high complex problems and put together best solutions that not only solve current situation but also prevent a repeat.
Promote best practices for software development, including high quality code, automated tests, documenting, monitoring and continue to raise the bar.
Develop code as required by working independently or with engineering team to either create new services or enhance existing services.
Proactively engage engineering team, guide them through implementation of services with QUALITY at the top of everything we do.
Coach, mentor, guide software engineers and help them to enhance their careers.
Transparent and clear communication with engineering team, stakeholders to achieve best results.

Additional Description Your Skills & Qualifications (Required Qualifications):
Bachelor's degree in computer science/engineering or related field.
8+ years of software engineering & development experience utilizing industry standard design patterns in common languages such as Java including Object oriented concepts.
Technical leadership experience, guiding software engineers, to develop code, test and deploy.
Strong analytical skills, strong critical thinking skills with ability to resolve issues at an extremely fast pace.
Solid Experience delivering Java / JEE Business Solutions utilizing full software development lifecycle (SDLC).
Experienced in cloud-based infrastructure (PCF/OCF, Azure etc.) including development of microservices using CI-CD with Spring, Spring boot, PaaS capabilities.
Proficient with test-driven development techniques (TDD, Junit, mocks).
Experienced in multiple interface patterns including RESTful APIs or event-based messaging.
Familiarity with Azure DevOps (ADO), GitHub, Artifactory, and similar systems along with experience in Unix/Linux shell scripting
Experienced with Oracle, Postgres, NoSQL with Yugabyte, and/or Cassandra and/or Cosmos, with competency in writing SQL. Ability to develop solutions conforming to big data technologies including Hadoop, Hive, Scala, Databricks, Kafka etc.
Experience with the ELK stack and dashboarding within Kibana, Grafana, App Insights to support production operations.
Familiarity with iterative and incremental development on product-focused teams.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively translate feedback, needs and solutions.
Strong teamwork focus and the ability to foster collaboration within and across teams. Ability to clearly connect with peers, as well as both business and technical focused teams.
A drive to push for higher success including an appetite to stay on par with latest trends and technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in leading and developing technical architecture, end-to-end solutions including flow diagrams, technical designs for large programs including launching services to support enterprise systems.
Experience in transforming, migrating services from one platform to another (WL VM to a cloud based - PCF/OCF, Azure etc.)
Experience in prioritizing the deliverables to achieve the best possible outcome in terms of business value given the time and resource constraints.
Ability to coach, mentor, influence other engineers on the team with the goal to make them independent and with the drive to produce best quality software.
Effectively delegate simple to medium complex tasks to other engineers on the team and drive maximum outcome with reasonable efforts.

Compensation: The expected base compensation for this role is : $116,100 - $181,600 Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
