The Network Firewall Engineer will help the Communications and infrastructure team design, implement, and maintain our firewall solutions to protect Northeastern Universitys global network infrastructure. Summary: The Network Firewall Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining firewall solutions to protect Northeastern Universitys global network infrastructure. This role involves configuring and managing firewall policies, monitoring network traffic, and responding to security incidents. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of network security principles and hands-on experience with firewall technologies. Qualifications A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or four-year university in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or other related fields. 3+ years of experience in network security and firewall management. Proficiency with firewall technologies such as Cisco ASA, Palo Alto, Fortinet, or similar. Strong understanding of network protocols, routing, and switching. Experience with intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS) and VPN technologies. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CCNP Security are a plus. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree in Information Technology, Information Security, Computer Science, Engineering, or other related field is a plus. Extensive knowledge of Palo Alto firewalls. CCIE or equivalent certification. CCNA, VMWare, Security, or equivalent certifications Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities: 20% of time: Design, implement, configure, and manage firewall solutions to secure network infrastructure. Configure and maintain firewall policies, rules, and access controls. 20% of time: Monitor network traffic for suspicious activity and potential security breaches. Conduct regular firewall audits and assessments to ensure compliance with security standards. 20% of time: Collaborate with IT and security teams to develop and enforce security policies and procedures. 10% of time: Respond to and investigate security incidents, providing timely resolution. 30% of time Provide technical support and guidance to other team members and departments.
