Job Title: Mid Level Data Scientist Location: Vienna or Winchester, VA or Pensacola, FL or San Diego, CA. Hybrid. (2 days a week or 8 days a month) Duration: 6+ months MOI: Skype. Looking for a Data Scientist who is from an operational style background (this is key) and can track a number of people who are using NFCUs website and mobile apps and the features. Will work on prediction/forecasting tool to help support the business. More on the junior-mid level experience/background. Do not need a SME but not a college graduate with no experience. Again, must be very operational focused someone they can groom. Some exposure to the business world, exposure to data science projects in the real world. Challenges with candidates so far: Candidates have very little Data Science experience with Masters Degrees. Very cookie cutter data experience. No practical experience in real world. Must have experience with data being messy since they will be building from scratch. Must be very data curious. Must have worked a lot with data and some data science experience. A degree with 1-2 years of real world project experience is ideal. Need someone who has seen the challenges data can bring. Experience with getting data clean and ready to run models. The title may be a Data Scientist but candidates lack modeling experience. They must have done Predictive Modeling: Regression modeling, Time Series modeling, Logistic Modeling, Machine Learning modeling etc. Key: Must have some exposure to SQL to pull and summarize data Programming language predominantly Python R programming language is second Position will interact and consult with internal stakeholders including Data Engineers, Programmers, Analyst Team that deals with dashboards, visualization, building data science models. Candidates must have EXCELLENT communication skills for this role. NOT Looking for AI, LLM, Gen AI. A little exposure is OK but will not help in this role. We are looking for candidates with a minimum of 5 years of experience with hands on Python, SQL and data warehousing experience with a Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computers Science, Engineering, or degrees in similar quantitative fields. Candidates must have at least 3 years of exploratory data analysis experience. This is NOT a Python developer role this is a Data Scientist role with heavy data analysis experience. Description: Provide analytical insights by extracting data through machine learning, programming, data modeling, and advanced mathematics to recognize complex patterns and identify opportunities to drive impact across the organization. Developing an understanding of business needs and objectives through the use of basic descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive models. Perform routine assignments with increasing scope and complexity. Work under close supervision with some latitude for problem solving within existing data platforms and tools. Developing professional with basic skill set and proficiency.
