Data Steward/Data Governance Consultant

Pittsburgh, PA (Hybrid)

Full time role

Job Summary:

The Data Steward will play a crucial role in the organization by ensuring the proper management, quality, and governance of data assets. This role involves working closely with various departments to establish data standards, improve data quality, and ensure compliance with data governance policies. The Data Steward will also serve as a key point of contact for data-related inquiries, ensuring that data is accurate, consistent, and accessible.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Governance and Policy Compliance:

o             Develop, implement, and enforce data governance policies and procedures.

o             Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies regarding data management and usage.

o             Collaborate with stakeholders to establish data stewardship roles and responsibilities across the organization.

Data Quality Management:

o             Monitor and maintain the quality, accuracy, and integrity of data across various systems and platforms.

o             Perform regular data audits, identify data discrepancies, and work with relevant teams to resolve data quality issues.

o             Develop and implement data quality improvement initiatives.

Data Management and Documentation:

o             Maintain comprehensive data dictionaries and metadata repositories.

o             Document data flows, data lineage, and data lifecycle management processes.

o             Ensure that data is appropriately cataloged, classified, and stored for easy access and retrieval.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

o             Serve as a liaison between IT, business units, and data governance teams to ensure alignment on data management goals and initiatives.

o             Provide training and support to business users on data management practices, data governance policies, and data-related tools.

o             Foster a data-driven culture by promoting the value of data as a strategic asset.

Data Security and Privacy:

o             Collaborate with IT and security teams to implement data security measures and ensure data privacy.

o             Monitor and manage access to sensitive data, ensuring compliance with data privacy laws and regulations.

o             Address data-related inquiries and concerns regarding data access, usage, and security.

Continuous Improvement:

o             Identify opportunities for process improvement in data management and governance.

o             Stay up-to-date with industry best practices and emerging trends in data stewardship and data governance.

o             Contribute to the development of a long-term data strategy for the organization.

Qualifications:

Education:

o             Bachelors degree in Information Management, Data Science, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.

Experience:

o             Proven experience (7+ years) in a data stewardship, data governance, or data management role.

o             Experience with data governance frameworks, data quality tools, and data management platforms.

o             Familiarity with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and data security best practices.

Skills:

o             Strong understanding of data governance principles and best practices.

o             Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data management skills.

o             Proficiency in data modeling, data mapping, and data lineage documentation.

o             Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

o             Detail-oriented with a strong focus on data accuracy and quality.

Preferred Qualifications:

              Experience with data governance tools such as Collibra, Informatica, or similar.

              Knowledge of database management systems, data warehousing, and ETL processes.

              Certification in Data Governance or Data Management (e.g., DAMA Certified Data Management Professional).
