Job Title: Azure SQL DBA Primary Skills: Microsoft Azure SQL Managed Instance (SQL MI), HA SQL databases, Azure Cloud environment Secondary Skills: SSIS, SSRS, MSSQL Server, Active Directory, IaaS, PaaS desirable Description: Location: Remote (EST candidate preferred) Client: SDI Presence Summary The Azure SQL DBA will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing complex, highly available (HA) SQL databases, as well as planning for and migrating such existing SQL databases from on-premise to Azure Cloud. Additional responsibilities include recommending improvements to best practices, defining repeatable procedures, as well as day-to-day database activities. Responsibilities: Plan for and safely migrate HA SQL databases from on-premise to Azure Cloud environments. Work closely with other DBAs, application administrators, development teams, and test teams to define requirements and develop solutions to complex problem. Lead the architecture and design of complex database systems, focusing on performance optimization and scalability. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into efficient database solutions. Review and analyze database design and integration of systems, recommend enhancements and/or improvements. Recommend best practices for data modeling, indexing, and query optimization to ensure optimal performance and reliability. Design and implement data migration strategies to seamlessly transition to Azure cloud. Proactively monitor database health and performance, identifying and addressing bottlenecks and issues as they arise Drive the adoption of cloud-based database solutions, particularly Microsoft Azure SQL Managed Instance (SQL MI), leveraging its capabilities for scalability and manageability. Collaborate with security and compliance teams to ensure data protection and regulatory compliance across database systems. Identify risks, perform risk analysis, effectively manage risks; proactively raise prioritization and scheduling tradeoff decisions, escalating and identifying alternate options as appropriate Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing, ensuring the resilience and availability of critical database systems. Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information. Requirements: Minimum 5 years experience as a Microsoft SQL DBA, including design, builds, upgrades, migrations, support, and performance tuning database administrative experience Cloud migration project implementation and support experience Must have a complete understanding of underlying data and applications. Must possess the following, including but not limited to system knowledge of Windows server, WSFC, Always On, Disaster Recovery, thorough knowledge of SQL Server databases, architecture and software development methodologies and practices; strong database performance tuning skills; and strong database troubleshooting and problem resolution skills. Experience with SSIS and SSRS to meet various Business Intelligence requirements. Experience with Database Administration for MSSQL Server. Extensive experience in setting up and supporting SQL Server Mirroring, Log Shipping, Mirroring/Log Forwarding, Clustering, and other disaster recovery methods Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience with SQL High Availability features, SQL Structured Query Language, and SQL Clustered environments. Experience configuring multiple nodes (Active/Passive) in SQL Servers to establish Clustering Environments. Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems, and in using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools. Proficient in Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, Client/Server Connectivity, conducting Database Consistency Checks using DBCC Utilities. Experience with backups, restore and recovery models, and configuring failover clusters. Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for MSSQL Server - Always On, Clustering, Failover etc. Experience with Microsoft Azure and Cloud Solutions - IaaS, PaaS desirable Experience in implementing operational automation using scripts. Knowledge of indexes, index management, and statistics. Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory and proper disk configurations. Good communication and documentation skills. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
