| JOB TITLE: Project Manager - HPC Dell Refresh Project EMPLOYMENT TYPE/DURATION: Urgent need: 4 month contract (with potential to extend up to 6 months and convert) US Citizen or Green Card Holders on >Max Pay Rate: $65/hour ON CTC LOCATION DETAILS: Hybrid 3 days onsite mandatory (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) Work hours flexible (7:30am-4:30pm; 7-4pm; 8-5pm) oAddress: 2200 Pacific Highway, San Diego, CA 92101 (Harbor Drive location) Interview Availability: Monday 9/30: 12-3pm PST Tuesday 10/1 all day (as of now) Wednesday 10/2 all day (as of now) Onboarding: Goal to have this resource onboarded and starting by Monday, 10/21 Project Overview: Intake call notes with Hassan Richardson and team: Hassan is the IT Manager for Solar's Engineering Solutions Department, which creates custom engineering and analysis applications. He also manages the high-power computing group. They are currently working on an HPC refresh project with Dell, which is behind schedule and over budget. Solar started a refresh project in November 2023, but they are behind schedule and over budget. Project is about 65% complete. The project has been led by division managers and the infrastructure team, but there has been no official project manager until now. They need someone to bring the relevant parties together, gather the necessary information, and help make a decision to move the project forward. Flexible on the technical requirements for the project manager role, but they are more interested in the candidate's project management skills, communication abilities, and initiative. He prefers someone with experience in infrastructure, network, Linux system administration, or high-performance computing (HPC), rather than a software development background. Specified that the preferred experience for the project manager is familiarity with Azure DevOps, as that is the primary tool they will be using. Other tools will be standard Microsoft Office applications. This team is a hybrid setup, not a pure Agile environment. They are not primarily involved in software development, so they do not strictly follow Agile practices, but they do incorporate some Agile elements. This PM will not be responsible for managing the budget, as it will be handled by Hassan and the division managers. ABOUT THE ROLE: Position Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Project Manager to lead our High-Performance Computing (HPC) Dell Refresh Project. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and organizational skills, along with significant experience in stakeholder management. A basic understanding of High-Performance Clusters is essential, as well as a proven ability to drive projects to successful completion. Key Responsibilities: Project Leadership: Plan, execute, and finalize the Dell refresh project within the established timeline and budget, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Stakeholder Management: Engage and communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including technical teams, senior management, and external vendors, to gather requirements and provide regular project updates. Communication: Facilitate clear and concise communication across all project levels, ensuring that project goals, risks, and statuses are understood and documented. Organization: Develop detailed project plans, including milestones, timelines, and resource allocation, to track progress and ensure adherence to deadlines. Risk Management: Identify potential risks and issues, proactively develop mitigation strategies, and implement solutions to minimize impact on project outcomes. Team Coordination: Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth collaboration and successful integration of new HPC systems. Documentation: Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including meeting notes, project plans, and status reports, to ensure transparency and accountability. Quality Assurance: Ensure that all project deliverables meet quality standards and fulfill the requirements set forth by stakeholders. Qualifications: Education: Bachelors degree in Project Management, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Experience: o5+ years of project management experience, preferably in IT or technology-driven projects. oExperience with High-Performance Computing environments or similar technical projects is highly desirable. Skills: oStrong organizational and multitasking abilities. oExcellent verbal and written communication skills. oProven experience in stakeholder management and relationship building. oAbility to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. oProficiency in project management tools and software. Attributes: oStrong drive and determination to achieve project goals and overcome challenges. oA proactive problem solver with a focus on results. What will a day in the life of this PM look like First week will be onboarding processes for the new hire, which will involve full training on Solar's policies, safety, and code of conduct, as well as a deep dive into the current project, key stakeholders, and decisions that need to be made. The new hire will also receive training on Azure DevOps, if necessary, and be expected to start holding daily meetings with the project team, preparing project presentations and stakeholder updates. PM Requirements: Need for a project manager with strong leadership skills and initiative to manage a growing project. The project involves coordinating with various teams, including engineers, IT directors, and other stakeholders. The project manager will be responsible for tasks such as setting up meetings, preparing presentations, and gathering feedback. Hassan mentions that he will be closely involved in the project for the rest of the year. Location: This PM will be based at Harbor Drive location Interview Process: 1 interview via MS Teams or in person for 45 minutes to meet with Hassan and Ed Gonzalez, CAE Lead.
