Programming in Cobol, DB2, CICS, JCL and VSAM Supporting existing applications to include 24X7 on-call rotation Developing enhancements for heavily used mainframe applications as the company moves toward phasing out the mainframe by 2027 Qualifications: 10+ years' Cobol and DB2 programming experience to include strong backend Cobol/DB2 CICS, JCL, and VSAM required Strong IBM mainframe utilities experience required Stored procedures experience required; experience creating views, tables and/or indexes also required Curious and analytical, with the ability to open up a program, and walk through the code to understand what it does to either develop enhancements and/or debug Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills to deal with business users and stakeholders Proven track record of project commitment - seeing contracts through to the end; will be looking for candidates who prefer longer-term projects, who have a track record for similar engagements Must be available for 24X7 on-call rotation Here are details from a standing job description for this role - for additional insight: This position plans, develops, tests, implements and supports all activities related to the development of software programs and applications into the organizations business systems. Ensures technology projects meet business requirements and goals, fulfills end-user requirements, and identifies and resolves systems issues. Application Development (60%) Application Development, Integration and Support Provides technical leadership on small to moderate projects and initiatives. Develops, implements, and supports software programs and applications into the organizations business systems. Performs code reviews. Executes on technical specifications for new and/or enhanced processes. Ensures projects meet business requirements and goals and fulfills end-user requirements. Monitors applications and seeks to improve application availability, quality, and performance. Creates and maintains all required technical documentation per BT methodology and processes. Performs daily management and operations of core business applications including enhancements, bug fixes, interfaces and other business requests. Resolves technical issues including diagnosis of problem, recommendations for workarounds, and defect correction. Prioritizes and coordinates multiple work tasks to meet the expectations of client. Software Testing (20%) Develops written test plans and provides analysis of software system test results. Tests software programs and applications. Addresses issues in program logic. Tests the interoperability of new applications with existing systems software. Process Development (10%) Designs process flows and technical specifications for customized code, where appropriate, and for testing the interoperability of application modules under development. Creates and maintains technical artifacts for projects and initiatives Application Leadership (10%) Facilitate meetings with Project Delivery and/or business unit team members. Provides information and training to other team members. Serves as a resource for questions and problem resolution. Keeps abreast of new technologies and industry best practices in application development Minimum Qualifications Bachelors degree in computer science, information technology or related field 10+ years of related experience Required Knowledge and Skills Proven experience developing and maintaining COBOL / DB2 batch applications. Proven experience developing and maintaining CICS/ DB2 programs. Experience using SQL to write stored procedures, views, tables, and/or indexes in DB2 required Command level TSO, ISPF, JCL and other utilities (i.e IDCAMS, IEBGENER). Advanced Knowledge of business application and development best practices. Effective communication skills to clearly and concisely convey technical information to customers and to share ideas, solutions and feedback with team. Effective interpersonal, analytical, organizational and planning skills. Ability to apply a methodical and logical approach to problem solving. Ability to coordinate tasks to meet established deadlines. Ability to foster collaborative working relationships with business clients, operations, security, and vendors.
