Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Microsoft Windows Server/Desktop Subject Matter Expert (SME) to manage and optimize our Windows Server and Desktop environments. The selected candidate will be responsible for supporting over 150 compute servers hosted in Azure and managing 200 Windows Desktops. This role requires deep expertise in Active Directory (AD), Group Policies, and Windows Server administration. You will also assist in maintaining, tuning, and hardening the Microsoft 365 E5 solution that is already deployed. This is not a helpdesk role, but you will collaborate with the Desktop Support team to manage desktop configurations using Group Policy/AD. The candidate will be part of an on-call rotation, which occurs one week per month. Candidates must reside in Virginia, be willing to go to Clifton Forge to pick up equipment, and attend staff meetings in Clifton Forge every 45-60 days. Key Responsibilities: Microsoft Windows Server/Active Directory Management: Manage and administer Windows Server 2019/2016 and Active Directory environments. Group Policy Administration: Implement and manage Group Policies to configure and manage desktop and server environments. Azure IaaS Management: Manage and maintain over 150 compute servers hosted in Azure, including deployment, tuning, and optimization. Windows Desktop Support: Collaborate with the Desktop Support team to manage over 200 Windows Desktops using Group Policy and Active Directory. Microsoft 365 Maintenance: Assist in maintaining, tuning, and securing the Microsoft 365 E5 environment. On-call Rotation: Participate in the on-call rotation (one week per month) to support critical systems. Troubleshooting & Communication: Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across multiple platforms while collaborating with employees, customers, technicians, analysts, and specialists. Documentation & Reporting: Create technical documentation, installation guides, and perform software testing across a variety of platforms. Qualifications: Windows Server Administration: Strong experience with Windows Server 2019/2016, including installation, maintenance, and tuning. Active Directory & Group Policies: In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with Active Directory and Group Policy management. Microsoft 365 Administration: Experience with Microsoft 365 administration, with an emphasis on tuning and hardening existing deployments. Azure IaaS: Experience managing Azure Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) environments is highly desirable. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical staff. Troubleshooting & Independent Work: Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently with limited supervision to resolve complex technical issues. On-call Experience: Ability to participate in an on-call rotation, supporting critical infrastructure as needed.
