Role : VMware SME Duration : 6 Months Contract Location : Dallas, TX (Hybrid Tuesday and Thursday Onsite) Rate - $60/hr on Corp To Corp (All Inclusive) JOB DESCRIPTION We are seeking a highly skilled VMware and Windows Subject Matter Expert to join our IT team. The SME will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing VMware virtualization environments and Windows-based systems for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). This role requires deep technical expertise in virtualization, Windows Server environments, and related IT infrastructure, as well as the ability to provide strategic guidance on best practices, system optimization, and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will be an expert in VMware vSphere, Windows Server 2008/2016/2019/2022, and associated Microsoft technologies, and will have hands-on experience with enterprise-level deployment, configuration, and support. Key Responsibilities: VMware Virtualization: o Architect, deploy, and maintain VMware environments (vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, NSX-t, Micro segmentation). o Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, and system optimization for VMware infrastructure. o Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues within VMware environments. o Implement and maintain VMware high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions. o Manage virtual machines (VMs), templates, snapshots, and clusters. o Ensure backups and disaster recovery strategies are in place for VMware environments. Windows Server Management: o Install, configure, and manage Windows Server operating systems (2016/2019/2022). o Configure and manage Active Directory (AD), DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and other core Windows infrastructure services. o Implement security best practices for Windows environments, including patch management, role-based access control (RBAC), and auditing. o Manage Windows-based applications like SQL Server, Exchange, and SharePoint. Storage and Networking: o Configure and manage shared storage environments (SAN, NAS, etc.) for use with VMware and Windows. o Troubleshoot and optimize network configurations, including VLANs, firewalls, load balancers, and VPNs in coordination with network teams. Automation and Scripting: o Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts for automation of tasks such as system monitoring, patch management, and configuration changes. o Utilize automation tools (e.g., VMware vRealize, Aria) to streamline IT processes. Monitoring and Troubleshooting: o Monitor system health, performance, and availability using tools such as vRealize Operations, SCOM, and others. o Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve performance bottlenecks, system failures, and incidents across the VMware and Windows platforms. Security & Compliance: o Implement and enforce security best practices across all infrastructure components. o Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO, GDPR, HIPAA, etc.) through proper configuration and documentation. o Respond to audits and security assessments, providing expert guidance on VMware and Windows infrastructure. Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: o Maintain comprehensive documentation for all VMware and Windows environments, configurations, and procedures. o Train and mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to other IT teams. Qualifications: Education: o Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience). Experience: o 5+ years of experience managing VMware environments (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter). o 5+ years of experience managing Windows Server environments (2016/2019/2022). o Experience in enterprise-level IT infrastructure environments, preferably for SMEs. Certifications: o VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) preferred. o Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert preferred. o ITIL certification is a plus. Technical Skills: o Expert knowledge of VMware vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi. o Deep understanding of Windows Server architecture and core services (AD, DNS, DHCP, GPO). o Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation. o Familiarity with SAN/NAS storage systems and networking technologies (e.g., VLANs, firewalls, VPNs). o Familiarity with backup and disaster recovery technologies (e.g., Veeam, Rubrik). Soft Skills: o Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. o Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. o Ability to work independently and as part of a team. o Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
