Job Summary:
As a Senior Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of critical database systems. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the availability, performance, and security of our databases, while adhering to industry best practices and organizational standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Database Administration
Manage and maintain database systems, including SQL Server installations, configurations, and upgrades.
Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimization strategies.
Implement and maintain database security measures, including access controls, encryption, and auditing.
Perform regular database backups and recovery procedures.
Troubleshoot database issues and resolve problems promptly.
Monitor database health and integrity, and take corrective actions as needed.
Database Design and Development
Collaborate with database architects and developers to design and implement database solutions.
Create, modify, and optimize database objects, such as tables, indexes, views, and stored procedures.
Write and execute SQL queries to retrieve, analyze, and manipulate data.
Develop and implement database change management processes.
High Availability and Disaster Recovery
Design and implement high availability and disaster recovery strategies for database systems.
Configure and maintain database replication and failover clusters.
Perform regular disaster recovery testing and validation.
Capacity Planning and Performance Tuning
Monitor database resource utilization and identify capacity planning needs.
Implement performance tuning techniques to optimize database performance.
Analyze database logs and performance metrics to identify and resolve issues.
Security and Compliance
Ensure compliance with security standards and regulations.
Implement security best practices, such as access controls, encryption, and data masking.
Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
Additional Responsibilities:
Follow and enforce database standards, policies, and procedures.
Research and draft guidelines within the boundaries of current policies and standards.
Monitor space allocation across databases and make adjustments as necessary.
Calculate disk space requirements for existing and new installations.
Modify DBMS parameters based on capacity changes.
Configure and execute database integrity checks.
Monitor database integrity checks.
Install database base management software for development and test environments.
Install database patches and service packs for development and test environments.
Monitor and support clustered database environments.
Monitor and support database replication and backup environments.
Implement strategies to release unused space or repair fragmentation in test and development environments.
Execute scripts provided by Systems Analysts or Database Architects/Designers to create and modify database objects.
Monitor database backups to ensure recoverability.
Troubleshoot backup errors.
Monitor database jobs and scheduled processes in development, test, and production environments.
Participate in troubleshooting database issues.
Monitor database environments using alert logs, trace files, and other tools.
Follow standards and guidelines for database space allocation based on best practices and implementation considerations.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
7+ years of Database administration specifically on SQL Server 16 and upwards.
Expertise in HA and DR solutions.
Transparent Data Encryption within SQL Server.
Over 3+ years of experience creating, updating and maintaining systems documentation.
