Position Summary

: We  are  seeking a Network Engineer to support our State Government client.  The Network Engineer will participate in planning and coordinating the design, installation, and connectivity of computer and network systems to ensure stable, scalable, redundant, and secure network operations.

This is a HYBRID position (3 days on-site) located at 189 Harry S Truman Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21401.  Core hours are 8am to 4:30pm, but some flexibility can be considered as flexibility to extend coverage hours or schedule to meet deadlines, project requirements, and/or on-call operational support, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays is required. Duration is 5 years, renewed in one-year increments.  After the first six months pending strong performance, the client may be willing to consider a shift to (2 days on-site) schedule.

Responsibilities:

Designing, developing, analyzing, troubleshooting, and documenting computer networks and infrastructure.

Performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and documentation of a statewide network, utilizing industry best practices for security, disaster recovery and business continuity, change control, and client support.

Developing and analyzing network designs and protocols including prototyping and assessment.

Performing planning, engineering, forecasting and implementation, and identification of resource requirements for network systems.

Leading and/or assisting in major network projects to support capacity growth, upgrades and new products/features, and integration.

Evaluating current network systems and recommending changes in maintenance and systems standards, and training support personnel on the conversion, implementation, and troubleshooting.

Applying in-depth up-to-date knowledge of standards, guidelines, industry trends and similar for LAN, WAN, Wireless, Data Center, Cloud networking and interconnection.

Driving improvements in network process, efficiency, and standardization.

Ensuring security compliance, change control processes and adherence to standards.

Providing upper tier of diagnosis, isolation, and resolution of network problems. 

Identifying and documenting root cause.

Proactively identifying potential issues in the production environment and recommending potential solutions

Developing comprehensive graphical and text-based documentation and effectively managing the implementation process from design to acceptance.

Hosting weekly status meetings/calls with team or on as needed basis.

Leading, scheduling, and overseeing the activities with other team members to resolve end user hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion.

Assisting in the creation of robust network designs, acting as the escalation point of contact and lead engineer for implementations and provide ongoing support and maintenance.

Oversight of the configuration, maintenance, and documentation of routers, switches, wireless controllers, load balancers, security appliances, WAN optimizers, and management and security appliances.

Reporting: 

Weekly report communicating project progress and status

Weekly time reporting on JIS provided forms

Any additional reports assigned by the supervising manager

Required:

Associate degree (or higher) in an Information Technology (IT) related field

ACTIVE Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) - Enterprise or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) - Security

8+ years of professional technical experience in IT Networking to include: 

Layer 2 & 3 optimization and boundary virtual switching systems.

Scalable routing protocols (BGP, EIGRP, OSPF).

Enterprise Data Center and cloud Networking for Virtualization, SDN, Load Balancing, storage.

Zero Trust Network Access and micro-segmentation.

High Availability in Enterprise.

Advanced WAN service layers, SDWANs and WAN Optimization applications.

Current Network Security Services applications, services, and appliances including, but not limited to: 

Identity Management.

Network Access Control.

Application Layer Inspection.

Content and Malware Filtering.

Data Loss and Intrusion Prevention.

Zero-day threats.

IPsec and SSL VPN.

PKI.

Two-Factor Authentication.

Enterprise VoIP and physical security environments - access control and video surveillance network applications.

Quality-of-Service design and implementation.

Network Management Protocols, Applications and Operating System capabilities

Installation and configuration of Cisco Catalyst, Nexus, and Palo Alto platforms

Installation, configuration, securing and troubleshooting enterprise wireless access systems.

Ability to: 

Work independently, troubleshoot, and provide mentoring to junior associates.

Communicate effectively when providing presentations.

Produce technical documents (diagrams, design documents, project plans and schedules, and user instructions) as required.

Strong knowledge of: 

Infrastructure Services and IPAM products.

IP multicast, Enterprise Video conferencing, streaming and on demand components.

Coding languages for scripting.

Major server desktop operating systems and utilities.

Desired:

Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) in Enterprise Infrastructure or Security Certification.

Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE) Certification.

Prisma Certified Cloud Security Engineer (PCCSE) Certification from Palo Alto Networks.
