The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience managing and optimizing DB2 on mainframes, ensuring high performance, reliability, and efficiency across critical mainframe-based applications within the railroad sector. Key Responsibilities: Mainframe Administration: Manage, configure, and maintain mainframe environments specific to the railroad industry, focusing on the stability, performance, and reliability of mainframe subsystems. DB2 Management: Oversee the administration of DB2 databases on mainframes, including installation, configuration, tuning, backup/recovery, and security management. Subsystems Expertise: Provide expertise in mainframe subsystems related to the railroad industry, optimizing systems for high efficiency and seamless integration with other railroad-specific applications. Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Monitor mainframe performance, proactively identify bottlenecks, and troubleshoot issues in a timely manner to minimize downtime and disruptions. Optimization and Tuning: Analyze and tune mainframe systems and DB2 to achieve optimal performance levels. Implement best practices for load balancing, query optimization, and resource utilization. Security and Compliance: Ensure that all mainframe environments and databases meet industry standards and compliance requirements specific to railroad operations. Upgrades and Patch Management: Manage and apply system upgrades, patches, and fixes for mainframe and DB2, coordinating with other IT teams to ensure minimal disruption to operations. Documentation: Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including configurations, processes, troubleshooting guides, and system updates. Collaboration: Work closely with developers, system architects, and cross-functional teams to support mainframe-dependent applications and ensure alignment with business needs. Disaster Recovery: Develop, test, and maintain disaster recovery plans for mainframe systems to ensure business continuity. Qualifications: Education: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience). Experience: Minimum 5+ years of experience in mainframe administration, with significant exposure to railroad industry-specific subsystems. Proven expertise with DB2 on mainframe systems. Technical Skills: Proficiency in mainframe environments (e.g., z/OS, JES2, JES3). Strong experience with DB2 database management, including performance tuning, backup/recovery, and security. Familiarity with other mainframe tools and technologies relevant to the railroad industry. Experience with mainframe subsystems, such as CICS, MQ, and IMS, as applicable to railroad operations. Knowledge of JCL, REXX, CLIST, and scripting for mainframe automation. Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams. Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in the railroad industry, with an understanding of industry-specific regulatory requirements and workflows.
