Position: Scrum Master Location: Remote Duration: 6+ Months Mode of Interview: Phone and Video Job Description: "These are your basic agile scrum master roles, not Sr and not technical PM roles, so we would expect them to be lower. We want good candidates, but Sr PMs would likely get bored in these roles." Purpose: To serve as a Scrum Master/PM for one or more data solutions development teams, guiding them with Agile, Scrum, and Lean values/practices through servant leadership. Foster a positive team culture, nurture continuous learning, growth mindset, and agile maturity in the team through agile practices, agile mindset, metrics, removal of blockers, continuous process improvement and partnership with program and department leadership. Competencies: Servant Leader: Able to garner respect from team and stakeholders and be willing to get their hands dirty to get the job done Situational Awareness: Must be the first to notice differences and issues as they arise and elevate them to management Assertive: Able to ensure Agile/Scrum concepts and principles are adhered to, be a voice of reason, and help the team in making tough decisions Attitude of empowerment: Able to lead the team to self-organization Attitude of transparency: Desire to bring disclosure and transparency to both business and IT and to grow trust among stakeholders and partners Collaborative: Able to partner with others to achieve goals at various levels throughout the organization and lead others to do so by example Communicative and social: Able to communicate well with all levels of the organization from Scrum team members to executives Conflict resolution: Able to facilitate discussions at the team and value stream level and facilitate alternatives or different approaches Continual improvement: Must continually be growing ones craft, learning new tools and techniques to manage oneself and the team Enthusiastic: Must be impassioned and high-energy, able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with demanding deadlines Facilitative: Able to lead by example, stay fair and neutral, and demonstrate value-added principles to agile value streams Flexible: Able to shift to the role or tasks needed for each situational transformation; able to get the job done regardless of role definition Quick learner: Able to quickly gain a high-level understanding of the technical and business domains as well as productivity and collaboration tools employed Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Coach the team and uphold agile ceremonies such as Daily Stand-up, Sprint Planning, Sprint Review, Sprint Retrospective, etc., and monitor their day-to-day progress in Rally (and other agile productivity tools, as needed) Foster a collaborative, agile mindset that promotes cross-training and challenges the team to relentlessly improve Actively remove impediments to meet team/program/business goals Be very comfortable with Agile team methodologies and coach the team in creating well written epics/features/user stories that focus on incremental business value delivery Proactively engage stakeholders/teams/programs to identify and address dependencies and requirements Practice Lean thinking, minimize waste, avoid agile anti-patterns and bottlenecks Ensure stakeholder inclusion, communication, and transparency Quickly identify delivery risks, surface them to the team, and track through resolution Support and work with the Product Owner and Delivery Team members to cultivate a healthy intra-team dynamic with respect to priorities and scope Capture meaningful metrics to quickly surface delivery risks, identify process problems, evaluate process changes, and measure team improvement Setup and manage team Kanban/Scrum boards, SharePoint pages, Teams collaboration channels, and other productivity tools Facilitate team agreements/processes to create, publish, and maintain team artifacts (designs, decisions, etc.) Ensures the DoD (Definition of done) and other team level working agreements are well defined and followed Inculcate a quality focus among team members and ensure they stay mindful of (and avoid) the cost incurred by cutting corners in the name of expediency Develop the team roadmap, contribute to PI/Program level planning Regularly report delivery status to department leadership and advise them on environmental factors that might impede team performance Provide input and actively participate in department and program Communities of Practice and initiatives to improve business agility in the team/program/enterprise Be a positive change agent. Foster a Can do, and learn by doing environment Education/ Experience/Skills: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or related area, or equivalent experience 3+ years of relevant professional experience as a Scrum Master with a track record of developing high-performing agile software delivery teams Experience acting as a Scrum Master for multiple teams Excellent verbal and written communication skills Diplomatic with strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills Strong analytical and critical thinking skills Well versed with Rally work item and defect tracking management system (other systems, e.g., JIRA, Azure DevOps, Aha!, etc. a plus) Well versed with SharePoint, Excel, Word, Visio, and PowerPoint In-depth knowledge of the Agile software development life cycle and implementation approaches Experience with production solutions and understanding of underlying technical components (servers, databases, data warehouses, storage, network configuration settings, DevOps pipeline, Cloud computing, etc.) Demonstrated success working under tight deadlines with demanding quality requirements Familiarity with Data management Knowledge of SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) and/or LeSS (Large Scale Scrum) structure and theories Working knowledge of budget, Scope, and Resource management Process development, improvement, and procedural documentation Understanding of backlog tracking, burndown metrics, velocity, and task definition Understanding of incremental delivery and the value of metrics Preferred Qualifications Prior experience related to Data Integration / ETLs / mappings Prior experience with Kafka, databricks, snowflake development teams Agile / Scrum Industry Certification(s) SAFe Certification(s) Project Management Industry Certification(s) Lean Methodology Certification(s) Advance experience with Rally and Aha!
