Role : AWS FinOps Architect Location: San Jose or Remote Type : Contract Experienced AWS FinOps Architect to lead our cloud financial management strategy and help optimize our AWS environment for cost efficiency and business value. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of AWS services, FinOps principles, and cloud cost management tools and the ability to collaborate with engineering, finance, and operations teams to drive cost transparency, accountability, and optimization. Key Responsibilities: 1.AWS Cloud Cost Optimization: Design and implement cost-optimization strategies for AWS services, including Reserved Instances (RIs), Savings Plans, Spot Instances, and resource right-sizing. Analyze cost usage reports and identify inefficiencies, waste, or anomalies in resource utilization. Implement tagging strategies and policies to ensure accountability and cost tracking. 2. FinOps Practices and Governance: Establish FinOps frameworks to promote financial accountability across engineering, operations, and finance teams. Develop processes for forecasting, budgeting, and chargeback/showback to business units. Create and maintain cloud financial dashboards and KPIs to provide visibility into AWS spend. 3. Collaboration and Advisory: Partner with finance, operations, and product teams to align cloud costs with business goals. Provide guidance to engineering teams on architecture decisions that optimize cost efficiency without compromising performance. Conduct workshops and training sessions to educate teams on FinOps principles and AWS cost management best practices. 4. Tooling and Automation: Implement and manage FinOps tools such as AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Budgets, CloudHealth, or CloudCheckr. Automate cost and usage reporting, tagging compliance checks, and resource cleanup processes. Evaluate and integrate third-party tools to enhance cloud cost visibility and optimization. 5. Analysis and Reporting: Conduct regular reviews of cloud spend, usage trends, and optimization opportunities. Provide actionable insights and recommendations to stakeholders. Monitor AWS pricing updates and assess their impact on the organizations cloud strategy. Required Qualifications: Bachelors degree in computer science, Engineering, Finance, or a related field. 5+ years of experience working with AWS cloud services, including cost management. Strong understanding of FinOps principles, including cost transparency, optimization, and financial accountability. Experience with AWS services such as EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, and Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS). Proficiency with AWS cost tools (e.g., AWS Cost Explorer, Budgets, and Billing Console). Familiarity with FinOps tools (e.g., CloudHealth, CloudCheckr, Spot.io, Ultimate.ai). Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret cost data and present actionable recommendations. Preferred Qualifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified FinOps Practitioner certification. Experience with cloud automation tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation). Knowledge of multi-cloud FinOps strategies (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP). Experience working in DevOps or Agile environments. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving mindset with a focus on delivering value. Ability to work collaboratively across technical and non-technical teams. Self-motivated with a passion for cloud financial management.
