An SDET is responsible for developing and implementing automated tests, ensuring that the software quality is maintained throughout the development lifecycle. The "Lead" designation indicates a more senior position with added responsibilities that extend beyond coding and testing.Key Responsibilities of an SDET Lead: Test Strategy and Planning: Lead the creation of test strategies for different applications. Plan and execute the testing efforts for new and existing software features. Team Leadership and Management: Lead a team of SDETs (Software Development Engineers in Test) and QA engineers. Mentor junior team members, provide technical guidance, and foster professional growth. Assign tasks and manage team resources effectively. Test Automation Frameworks: Develop and maintain automated test scripts using various testing tools (e.g., Selenium, Appium, TestNG, JUnit). Design and improve test automation frameworks to increase efficiency and coverage. Collaboration: Work closely with development teams, product managers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and design test plans. Participate in agile ceremonies like sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives. Quality Assurance: Ensure the quality of the software by reviewing code and test results. Perform test reviews and identify areas where test coverage needs to be improved. Identify and communicate risks and issues related to the softwares quality. Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD): Integrate automated tests into the CI/CD pipeline to ensure that tests are run automatically with each build. Monitor test results and work on maintaining the health of the testing pipeline. Performance Testing: In some cases, SDET Leads also work on performance and load testing to assess the applications scalability. Reporting: Provide detailed reports on testing progress, issues, and test results to stakeholders. Track and measure key performance indicators (KPIs) such as test coverage and defect rates.Skills Required: Programming: Proficient in programming languages like Java, Python, C#, or JavaScript. Testing Tools: Experience with tools such as Selenium, Appium, TestNG, JUnit, Postman, and others. Agile Methodologies: Deep knowledge of Agile development processes and working in an Agile environment. CI/CD tools: Familiarity with Jenkins, GitLab, or similar tools for automating test execution in the CI/CD pipeline. Leadership and Communication: Strong leadership skills, with the ability to mentor, guide, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
