As a hands-on Architect or Senior Engineer, you will play a vital role in developing and implementing data engineering solutions. This position requires expertise in modern cloud data warehousing technologies, with a focus on Snowflake, and strong communication skills to collaborate with stakeholders and present solutions to leadership. Essential Functions: Data Engineering and Architecture: Design and model scalable, efficient data pipelines for supply chain and merchandising analytics. Implement modern BI and analytics solutions that align with Ross Stores business requirements. Development and Optimization: Engineer robust, adaptable data pipelines using Snowflake and Azure, ensuring optimal performance and scalability. Develop performance optimization methodologies for data flows. Stakeholder Collaboration: Translate business needs into technical requirements and solutions. Collaborate effectively within data technology and business information teams. Present technical solutions to leadership and stakeholders clearly and concisely. Leadership and Mentoring: Act as a technical lead within a hub-and-spoke model for supply chain and merchandising domains. Review and guide the work of other engineers within the team. Problem-Solving and Issue Management: Drive timely issue identification, escalation, and resolution. Ensure data pipelines and architectures meet business and operational requirements. Qualifications and Skills: Education: Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Analytics, or a related field. Experience: 12+ years of data engineering experience, including extensive work on data pipelines, SQL, and scripting. 5+ years in data architecture, including standards and data modeling for modern data warehousing solutions. 3+ years working with modern data architectures, with a primary focus on Snowflake and Azure. Proven experience in cloud data warehousing and big data technologies such as Hive and Spark. Retail domain experience preferred, with prior experience at Albertsons being a plus. Technical Skills: Proficient in Python and SQL; familiarity with DBT is highly desirable. Expertise in DevOps/DataOps methodologies and tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, Ctrl-M). Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT processes and modern data preparation tools. Familiarity with data lineage and catalog tools for enhancing data transparency. Knowledge of reporting tools such as MicroStrategy and Power BI is advantageous. Soft Skills: Exceptional communication and presentation skills to interact with stakeholders and leadership. Ability to work in a fast-paced Agile environment. Strong problem-solving skills with a customer-centric mindset. Interview Process: Initial Manager Interview: 45 minutes. Technical Round: 1 hour with Senior Data Engineer. Focus on Python, SQL, and Snowflake. Candidates will be asked to explain code functionality and implementation strategies. Leadership Round: Meeting with Manager and VP. Additional Details: Work Model: Hybrid, requiring onsite presence in Pleasanton, CA, 3 days a week. Relocation: Allowed, but candidates must start onsite from Day 1.
