About the Role: We are looking for a Network Security Engineer to play a crucial role in reviewing and managing network access requests while ensuring compliance with security policies. This position bridges the gap between application teams and network security, assessing firewall change requests for security risks and feasibility. Key Responsibilities: Review and validate network access requests from application teams, developers, and other stakeholders. Ensure requests comply with security policies and industry best practices. Identify and push back on high-risk or overly broad requests (e.g., /8 network access, any-any firewall rules). Collaborate with network security teams to document approved exceptions and maintain security records. Assist requestors in finding secure alternative solutions, such as using proxies instead of direct firewall openings. Efficiently process approvals to avoid bottlenecks and escalate when needed. Work closely with SMEs for complex escalations. Educate teams unfamiliar with network security policies and best practices. What Were Looking For: Networking Fundamentals: Understanding of subnets, firewalls, routing, and protocols like HTTP, HTTPS, SSH, and RDP. Security Best Practices: Knowledge of least privilege principles, network segmentation, and firewall rule implementation. Strong Communication: Ability to explain security concerns to non-technical teams and propose alternative solutions. Problem-Solving: Capable of assessing and suggesting better approaches to network access issues. Attention to Detail: Ability to document and track security exceptions effectively. Team Player: Experience collaborating with network engineers, security teams, and application owners. Common Scenarios Youll Handle: Overly Broad Requests: Developers requesting /8 access to productionredirecting them to more precise access. Unnecessary Firewall Changes: Teams requesting outbound firewall rules when proxies would sufficeguiding them toward the best alternative.
