Job Title: Senior AWS/Python Cloud Developer Location: Remote (EST, CST, and MST only) NEED LINKEDIN Job Description Developer position working in the Cloud (They call this role a cloud dev). The key is real development skills and development backgrounds. This is a hands-on developer role, and candidates should really be aware of this. Leads and architects that are truly still hands-on have been getting hired for this lately. Many get screened out for not being hands-on enough or at all when they interview. This role supports the Southwest.com website and its application team. They need application-side developers, not infrastructure/platform/DevOps candidates or candidates who are too much on the data side. The ideal candidate is someone who moved from Java to Python in the AWS cloud. Backend skills are valued, and front-end skills are not in the role. Required Qualifications Candidates need extensive experience in: AWS Lambda Terraform Infrastructure as Code (IaC) System Design knowledge Kafka API Development CloudWatch Strong foundation in cloud technologies Python, Java, AWS, Lambda, Step Functions Experience Requirements 15+ years of hands-on AWS cloud engineering experience. Strategic thinker is a MUST. Someone with consistent communication and ability to follow through. AWS certifications (Solutions Architect Professional or DevOps Engineer Professional). 14+ years of overall experience is strongly preferred. Previous Java experience in their career or as former Java developers. Typically 5+ years of Python experience; the more, the better. Very senior-level developers have been getting hired lately, a lot over 15+ years, but sometimes a 10-year developer can be hired. Experience should be in the USA for at least 10 years. Technical Background Lambdas are extremely important to get this position. They must have worked with them. AWS cloud experience is important. The more recent, the better. Azure is not what they're doing. This is an AWS migration from on-prem to cloud AWS. New code in Python, old code is in Java. Candidate Profile The key is real development skills and development backgrounds. They need to find people who are not working in DevOps or infrastructure teams because this role supports the Southwest.com website and is full of application developers. Java developers who turned into developers in the cloud with Python are the key. They want backend developers and not full-stack developers or front-end developers. This job is about talent and not rate; quality is everything. The focus is on high-quality candidates who have been working in the USA for years and years. Work Location Remote, but only for Eastern, Central, and Mountain Time Zone candidates. Eastern Time Zone Allowed Central Time Zone Allowed Mountain Time Zone Allowed Pacific Time Zone (PST) Not Allowed Arizona Not Allowed due to its lack of daylight savings time and time zone difference. Important Notes This is a hands-on developer role. Candidates must still write code daily, even if their title is Lead or Architect. Leads and architects who are truly hands-on have been getting hired. Candidates who are not hands-on enough or at all are screened out during interviews. Backend development skills are valued.
