Job Title Embedded Software Engineer Building Location Mossville ,IL Job Description Summary: The main function of an embedded software engineer is to apply the principles of computer science and mathematical analysis to the design, development, testing, and evaluation of the embedded software and systems that make computers work. A typical embedded software engineer researches, designs, develops and tests operating systems-level software, compilers, and network distribution software for medical, industrial, military, communications, aerospace, business, scientific and general computing applications. Job Responsibilities: Design and implement software of embedded devices and systems from requirements to production and commercial deployment for product lines. Write and code logical and physical database descriptions and specify identifiers of database to management system or direct others in coding descriptions. Analyze and enhance efficiency, stability and scalability of system resources Review project requests describing database user needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish project. Skills: Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of reading schematics and data sheets for components Basic knowledge of the full software development lifecycle: from business/systems analysis, through requirements gathering and functional specification authoring, to development, testing and delivery. Basic ability to troubleshoot issues and make system changes as needed to resolve issue. Basic knowledge of computer hardware and software. Solid programming experience in C or C++ Knowledge of computer development software as it relates to embedded systems, such as SQL, VisualBasic, etc. Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering or relevant field required. 2-4 years experience required. Positions Contributions to Work Group: This is a position for a software application engineer to develop Onboard Core Information software specifications and verification documentation for Displays and Telematics used on Caterpillar machine & engine applications. The candidates duties will include but are not limited to: development of software specifications, development of verification documentation, and testing of wireless software and applications. This position includes working in close collaboration with cross-functional teams consisting of hardware engineers, internal and external software vendors, and systems engineers to architect and integrate the products. Typical task breakdown: Software release cadence every two weeks. Provides requirements and acceptance criteria Interaction with team: Daily interaction with mentor for first 6 months. 3x weekly stand up meetings with entire team. Weekly task assignment meeting with smaller value team. Monthly conversation with Work Director. As needed interaction with Work environment: Office with dedicated individual desk and storage Candidate Requirements Education & Experience Required: BSCE, or BSCS. College graduates with applicable 2-4 years' experience in projects/internships will be considered but not at max bill rate. Technical Skills (Required) BSEE, BSCE, or BSCS 2 years of experience with developing requirements and/or specifications for software features. 1 year of experience in wireless communications such as BLE, Cellular, and NB IoT in machine or industrial applications. 1 year of experience developing scripts using scripting languages such as Python & Linux Bash. 1 year of experience with Ethernet, TCP/IP, Wi-Fi, and analysis tools such as Wireshark. 1 year of experience with CAN, J1939 and other data link protocols. (Desired) Desire to work in a fast-paced Agile team environment Experience using a wide variety of testing tools Experience using CAN based tools like CANoe and CANalyzer Experience in Embedded Cyber Security Ability to read electrical schematics Experience with GIT configuration management tool Soft Skills (Required) Team Player, Good verbal and written communication skills, including the use of Microsoft Office when producing requirements, specifications, reports, and test plans.
