We publish more than 50 well-reputed and peer-reviewed journals in all aspects of chemistry and related fields. Information Technology is responsible for: providing services to programs that reach over 150,000 members and hundreds of thousands of our journal readers at thousands of institutions of higher learning and leading business and research organizations. Our Information Technology (IT) units have more than 200 professionals engaged in harnessing the most advanced IT technologies including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Business Analytics, efficient search technologies Big Data, and Cloud-based web sites. Our Infrastructure team is exploring new technologies such as Blockchain and Container technologies to enhance our platforms to deliver complex applications that advance ACSs mission of Advancing the broader chemistry enterprise and its practitioners for the benefit of Earth and its people. The IT Publications Software Engineering group is responsible for the creation, maintenance and support of enterprise-level information technology systems that produce publication-ready articles for the ACS Journals and weekly newsmagazine. We support publication of about fifty scientific journals, a weekly newsmagazine, and an extensive IT network of over 200 editorial offices. The Software Engineering Group is responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of applications that assist the entire publication process, from author submission through peer review, editor acceptance, technical editing, graphics editing, page composition, delivery on web sites for Internet access. Approach and Scope: The Senior Business Analyst will partner with the Project Manager to ensure successful project delivery. He or she defines business requirements through elicitation and research of business processes, operations and survey. Additionally, this candidate will develop/own requirements and system and technical specifications documentation for client engagements. Essentially this person is to become the subject matter expert on application, process or system to support development and testing efforts as he or she ensures issues are identified, tracked, reported on and resolved in a timely manner. Overall, this person will work with project team to constantly identify changes and updates project deliverables. Work to be Performed: Facilitate, elicit and document business requirements for business process, reports, and business tasks needed for enhancements to existing systems as well as new ones that maybe initiated by business customers. Obtain signoff/approval from business and IT owners and sponsors. Translate and document the business requirements into functional specifications for developers. Provide requirement traceability matrix. Maintain requirement documents and test cases, capturing changes and new requirements to insure traceability and completeness overtime. Develop and document test cases and test plans for business and technical requirements. Perform testing. Determine proper set of tests to conduct for minor vs. major releases and organize Test documents accordingly. Maintain defect tracking database; enter new defects as they are reported and close them after fixes are verified; and add updates as needed to document test results. Provide meeting minutes for project team meetings to document decisions made, action items to be completed, next steps, etc. Provide evaluation approaches for solutions that are available from software vendors and facilitate the review and analysis of vendor software systems. When needed, provide analysis of existing application software to document data relationships and functionality that needs to be captured by replacement software. Perform research in the market place to develop Requests for Information and/or Requests for Proposal. Provide analysis of responses to RFI and RFP requests.
