Heating Test Technician

The Heating Test Technician will work on the Engineering Lab team that is part of the Unitary Products Group (UPG) for Johnson Controls. In this division we design, test, manufacture and assemble heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment for the light commercial and residential markets. This is an opportunity to work in our brand new, state-of-the-art laboratory!

1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift positions available (shift differential offered for 2nd and 3rd shifts!)

How you will do it

Prepare and install test units in the test facility in order to simulate field installation conditions.

This includes but is not limited to duct connection, electrical and gas connections, data acquisition instrument installation, etc.

Run safety and certification tests per Engineering instruction and test standard requirements.

Analyze test data and make modifications and adaptations to the test unit based upon analysis of the data.

Utilize computer software programs as required to run the test station, conduct testing, and collect test data.

Follow established safety procedures and maintain a clean work area.

What we look for

Required Qualification:

2-year degree, HVAC license, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

1-4 Years suggested minimum experience.

Demonstrated working knowledge and skills in such areas as reading wiring diagrams, modifying unit wiring and controls, instrumentation, electromechanical troubleshooting, and modification of prototypes.

Ability to analyze data and make decisions based on analysis.

Ability to lift equipment, compressors, units, motors, sheet metal parts etc.

Electrical Engineering Technician

What you will do

The Electrical Engineering Technician position is a member of the Residential Controls Team that is part of the Ducted Systems Group for Johnson Controls which ensures our products meet not only the regulatory requirements but also our customer s requirements and expectations. The position will be located in Wichita, KS. This position will be expected to design and build test fixtures and test systems and/or embedded controls on those test fixtures and standalone bench tests. This position will be expected to work with engineers and technicians both within and outside the team. Requires good communication and troubleshooting skills, and ability to work in a cross-functional environment.

How you will do it

Develop advanced systems & controls: products, parts, specifications, circuits, etc. in a timely and effective manner to ensure quality, customers, and cost objectives are met.

Collects, analyzes and interprets data and designs circuits or components.

Participates as a member of a project team to ensure projects are completed according to the product development process. This includes supporting the completion of assigned engineering requirements such as Design Review, Specifications, DFMEAs, Test Plans, etc.

Lead smaller scale projects and support larger scale projects under the guidance of the teams Engineers and Engineering Manager

Perform other duties as assigned.

Certificate program completion in engineering, electronics, HVAC or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience

Staff Combustion Engineer

The Combustion Staff Engineer will work in the Residential Packaged Product and Furnace Design team that is part of the Unitary Products Group Ducted Systems for JCI. This position is located at the Wichita, KS facility and will report to the Engineering Director for Residential Packaged Product and Furnace products.

This position will create value for JCI stakeholders by planning, conducting and supervising engineering projects with significant magnitude and scope involving integration among diverse systems and culture. You will work and collaborate with other cross functional disciplines such as Product Management, Plant Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Procurement, Quality, Field Service and PMO (Project Management Office) to develop and launch new products. You will support these products and others in production to provide optimal customer satisfaction. You will also serve as a technical leader for the others within and outside the immediate team to participate in the team environment in the Wichita design group.

How you will do it:

Follow established safety procedures and wear the required personal protection equipment.

Complete projects in a timely and efficient manner to ensure that improvement objectives are met.

Create and develop system concepts, product information using information provided by development team members and legacy products adhering to current agency and regulatory requirements.

Plan and implement processes, systems and procedures to complete assignments applying standard and local engineering practices and principles.

Identify, investigate, recommend improvements in products, systems of processes to improve application, efficiency or application

Conduct system analysis and experimentation to assess application, feasibility of design and explore alternatives.

Develop working prototypes, detailed plans, test outlines / procedures, and implement tests for industry to meet agency or regulatory compliance.

Creates project plans and schedules to meet or optimize required development timeline.

Performs actions to balance implementation, schedule, cost, and resource constraints and make recommendations to team.

Provide technical direction and guidance to engineers, designers, model makers, technicians, and/or programmers to ensure timely implementation of improvement proposals.

Implement viable proposals according to the assigned priority using the engineering change process.

Track and report progress on key metrics such as cost, reliability, and warranty improvements to internal customers, external customers, and upper management.

Lead in design reviews for all new product launches to ensure the implementation of previous lessons learned and the application of any new product and/or process improvements.

Lead members of engineering and multi-functional teams to support project completion.

Represents the company in industry, trade organizations, and in direct interactions with customers as required.

What we look for:

Bachelor s Degree in engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

A proven experience working with Gas Fired Residential Furnace systems in a design and manufacturing environment.

Deep understanding of Natural Gas and Propane combustion, air to fuel ratio, In-shot and Premixed burners and demonstrated experience in their application.

In depth knowledge of the ANSI z21.47 standard.

Strong mechanical proficiency and problem-solving skills.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and to lead teams when required.

Self-motivated with a determination to exceed project objectives.

Ability to organize and handle simultaneous tasks and projects.

Strong social skills; effective and professional communication.

Ability to make decisions quickly to maintain project schedules.

Flexibility and adaptability to changing situations and environments.

Proficiency using the Microsoft Windows operating system in conjunction with the following Microsoft Office modules: Access, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Project, and Word

Familiarity with industry standards including AHRI, ASHRAE, DOE, EPA, NEC, UL/CSA, etc.

Experience in design and testing gas fired equipment to ANSI z21.47.

EPA Section 608 Refrigerant Certification Universal (40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F).

What you will do

The Model Maker Lead will work on the Engineering Lab team that is part of the Unitary Products Group (UPG) for Johnson Controls. In this division we design, test, manufacture and assemble heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment for the light commercial and residential markets. This is an opportunity to work in our brand new, state-of-the-art laboratory!

How you will do it

Coordinate model builds to ensure support of lab schedules

Build prototype test units per engineering specifications.

Fabricate custom parts for test units and testing facility.

Follow established safety procedures and maintain a clean work area.

Train and mentor newer technicians.

What we look for

Required Qualification:

2 year degree, HVAC license, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

5 years suggested minimum experience.

Demonstrated working knowledge and skills in such areas as reading wiring diagrams, modifying unit wiring and controls, sheet metal fabrication, brazing, and welding.

Ability to lift equipment, compressors, units, motors, sheet metal parts etc.
