Position Summary: 

The Data Engineer Lead will be responsible for developing and maturing the process to collect, store, process, and transform large volumes of data to make it accessible, reliable, and usable for analysis and decision-making. The ideal candidate is an experienced data pipeline builder and data wrangler who enjoys optimizing data systems, processes and approaches and building them from the ground up. 

The successful candidate must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams and systems. The right candidate will be excited by the prospect of optimizing our companys data to support our next generation of investments. 

Summary of Responsibilities: 

This Data Engineer Lead is a critical team member of the Data Services team. In partnership with the IT leadership, the Data Lead will be accountable for developing and maturing processes and services for data cleansing, de-dupe, conversions, and loading efforts across internal and external project teams. Create, update, and continuously improve our data services, tools, and services for superior quality. Facilitates collaborative partnerships with fellow Data Stewards and analysts that leverage data for business decisions and outcomes. Provides day-to-day leadership to other data engineers and analysts.  

The Data Engineer Lead must work effectively with various technical internal and external partners and assist in system/application implementations. In addition, this role will support the Data Strategy by integrating future data design and implementations of data connections, storage, and access in aligning the data strategy set forth by leadership. The ideal candidate will be proficient in SQL, ETL approaches/strategies, and Excel skills and know Power BI/other visualization tools with 3+ years working in a data engineer lead role. 

Skill Set Requirements: 

    Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.  

    Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets.  

    Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency, and workload management.  

    A successful history of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large, disconnected datasets.  

    Proficient in ETL approaches and strategies  

    Exemplary ability to use Excel as a reporting and analytics tool 

    Experience using Tableau/Power BI 

    Experience using SharePoint and Microsoft Tool Suite  

    Highly analytical individual with an inquisitive mind 

    Good interpersonal and communication skills to build effective relationships across various levels and departments  

    Effective writing and verbal communication skills 

    Ability to prioritize different projects/tasks and stay on schedule 

    Ability to look at situations from several viewpoints to seek solutions and improvements 

Day-to-day responsibilities: 

     Learn aspects of software systems utilized by APi Group, including data structures, configurations, and business processes applicable to support data management and loading in the system. 

     Support the Operating Companies and other IT workstreams to solution data reporting and migration within the business systems.  

     Design, build, and maintain scalable and efficient data pipelines to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various sources to target systems.  

     Develop, implement, and mature data cleansing approaches, tools, and strategies, including automation efforts to support better mergers and acquisitions and conversions of companies onto APi Group business systems. 

     Organize and streamline operating companies and APi Group data collection to meet reporting needs from various ERP and business systems. 

     Creating and maintaining data models, defining data structures, relationships, and data storage requirements, using techniques like entity-relationship diagrams and data flow diagrams.  

     Developing data transformation processes, including data cleansing, normalization, aggregation, and enrichment, to prepare data for analytics and reporting.  

     Identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks in data processing and storage systems, optimizing query performance, and improving overall data pipeline efficiency.  

     Implementing data quality assurance processes, validating data pipelines, and resolving data quality issues.  

     Monitoring data pipelines, diagnosing and troubleshooting issues, performing system upgrades and maintenance tasks to ensure data reliability and availability.  

     Ensures data services solutions, configurations, and processes are sustainable and scalable. 

     Support partnerships to maintain relationships and ensure initiatives are completed successfully. 

     Create and implement strategies with our user community to support Operating Companies clean data initiatives and ensure proper systems use through training, support, standard processes, and feedback loops. 

     Help maintain user community communication, training documentation, and resources, ensuring these living documents are readily available and updated as necessary. 

Experience You Will Bring:  

     Large, complex ERP data conversion, data integration, data de-dupe, and cleansing experience.  

     Data cleansing best practices and approaches to improve data quality.  

     Excellent analytical skills and aptitude for critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills 

     Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 

     Data-driven and analytically focused approach 

     Strong character, ethics, commitment, and reliability 

     Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other data cleansing/migration tools 

Experience in SAP/Oracle/NetSuite 

     5+ Years of experience working in an IT environment independently and in teams (including remote and global delivery models).
