You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the availability, security, compliance, and performance of our databases that support corporate applications. The successful candidate will be responsible for understanding the needs and requirements of various technology teams (infrastructure, security, and development) and will have experience working directly with them in a hands-on manner. This hire will collaborate with development and technology teams to integrate databases into cloud-based applications and services. Responsibilities Database Management and Architecture Strong background with SQL Server database administration and associated Windows Server based environments. Design, implement, and manage database solutions in AWS and/or Azure. Architect and optimize databases for high availability, scalability, and fault tolerance in cloud environments. Evaluate and recommend appropriate database services and configurations based on application requirements and performance needs. Must demonstrate experience managing the set up and upgrades of complex databases, including interfacing with GIT source control. Experience with database planning and design, set-up, maintenance, performance tuning, upgrades, and partitioning. Experience with migrating large data sets for archiving or data sharding. Responsible for the sustainment of numerous SQL environments, ensuring operational readiness (security, health, and performance), executing data loads, and performing data modeling in support of the development teams. Develop and maintain robust backup and disaster recovery strategies for databases to ensure data availability and business continuity. Implement and manage database replication and failover mechanisms for high availability and fault tolerance. Ensure scheduled full, differential, and transaction log backups are occurring on critical production machines along with routine maintenance. Experience with AWS data technologies and infrastructure preferred, specifically with RDS. Exposure and experience with Microsoft and Azure data technologies is a nice to have (Azure Data Factory, Power Platform and Power BI etc..) Database Performance and Monitoring Proficient production support skills with the ability to understand the impact of a problem on overall DB performance. Performance tuning - monitor database performance metrics, identify bottlenecks, and optimize query performance, indexes, and configurations. Use automated scaling and resource optimization techniques to maximize cost efficiency and application performance. Review monitoring tools and query execution plans to maintain or increase query efficiency. Also perform root cause analysis on query performance issues. Work with application developers in the design, tuning, and indexing of tables. Examines server and application logs to determine trends and identify as well as respond to security incidents Respond to alerts, troubleshoot, and resolve problems in a timely manner via in-person and remote Participate in IT support & services, problem, incident, and change management DevOps and Automation Experience Experience with Windows Server based infrastructure and .NET applications preferred. Strong experience using PowerShell and/or C# to automate data workflows and processes (Such as automating restore processes, refreshing data across multiple environments daily) Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using tools like AWS CloudFormation, Azure Resource Manager, and Terraform for repeatable and automated cloud database deployments. Develop and maintain database administration scripts and automation tools to streamline routine tasks, strong experience using PowerShell and/or C# to automate data workflows and processes Understanding of cloud cost management, monitor cloud database resource usage and optimize costs by selecting appropriate instance types, storage options, and performance levels. As well as identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising on performance and reliability while considering archiving abilities and data storage planning. Database Security and Compliance Working experience operating in a highly regulated environment, and relevant SOC1/SOX and data privacy regulations and best practices. Implement robust security measures and best practices in our database infrastructure - including encryption, access controls, and data masking to safeguard sensitive information. Experience implementing database monitoring, auditing, and security tooling to meet internal and external audit requirements. Prepare supporting documentation as necessary to satisfy regulatory, customer, and insurance requirements Qualifications 5 7 years experience in a Database Administrator or similar role Ability to work autonomously yet integrate appropriately with the team Highly organized, efficient, and able to work to tight deadlines in a high-pressure environment Excellent planning, organizational, implementation, and follow-up skills required Highly analytical with excellent problem-solving ability Must be willing to work weekends and evenings, as necessary, and be on call as required Compensation The expected base salary for this position ranges from $150,000 - $180,000 per year and is based on a wide range of factors, including the individuals experience and skills for the role and market considerations. Base salary is only one component of our total compensation package. Employees may be eligible for an annual discretionary performance-based bonus, which is determined based on firm and individual performance.
