Job Summary: A GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Architect is a key member of an organization's geospatial technology team. This role combines technical expertise with strategic thinking to design and implement GIS solutions that support the organization's objectives. GIS Architects play a pivotal role in planning, developing, and maintaining GIS infrastructure, databases, and applications, ensuring that spatial data is efficiently collected, analyzed, and utilized to make informed decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

GIS Infrastructure Design:
Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their GIS requirements and develop scalable GIS infrastructure solutions.
Design and oversee the implementation of GIS servers, databases, and network configurations to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Evaluate and recommend hardware and software components for GIS projects.

Database Management:
Develop and manage geospatial databases, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and security.
Implement data models and schemas for efficient data storage and retrieval.
Perform regular database maintenance tasks, such as data updates, backups, and optimization.

GIS Application Development:
Lead the development of GIS applications, web services, and APIs.
Collaborate with software developers to integrate GIS functionality into custom applications.
Ensure that GIS applications are user-friendly, accessible, and adhere to industry standards.

Spatial Analysis and Modeling:
Conduct spatial analysis and modeling to derive meaningful insights from geographic data.
Develop geoprocessing workflows and automate spatial analysis tasks.
Create maps, reports, and visualizations to communicate analytical results.

Data Integration and ETL:
Integrate external data sources and formats into the GIS system.
Develop Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes to convert and update data.
Maintain data interoperability and compatibility across various systems.

Geodatabase Design:
Design and manage geodatabases for different GIS projects.
Define data relationships, topology, and attribute rules.
Ensure geodatabase schemas align with industry and organizational standards.

Quality Assurance and Testing:
Establish quality control processes to verify the accuracy and consistency of spatial data.
Conduct testing and validation of GIS applications and workflows.
Document and resolve issues as they arise.

Collaboration and Communication:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, urban planners, and engineers, to integrate GIS into various projects.
Communicate technical concepts and solutions to non-technical stakeholders.

Training and Documentation:
Provide training to staff on GIS tools, best practices, and data management.
Create and maintain documentation for GIS processes, workflows, and standards.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or a related field.
Proven experience as a GIS Analyst or GIS Developer with a strong focus on architecture.
Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS), spatial databases (e.g., PostgreSQL/PostGIS), and programming languages (e.g., Python, Java).
Knowledge of spatial analysis techniques, cartography, and geospatial standards.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
