From: UTTAM BARMAN, SONITALENTCORP [email protected] Reply to: [email protected] Job title: Platform Engineer / Linux Engineer Location: 5001 Statesman Drive, Suite 100, Irving, TX 75063 **HYBRID**ONSITE ( Local Only ) Interview: Phone/ Skype Visa: USC and GC only Job Description: Section 1: Job Requirements and Candidate Evaluation - The resumes received show various experiences, but most of them are contract-based with no clear focus. - The company needs a senior-level professional with expertise in Puppet Enterprise and Red Hat Linux, although the original plan was for a mid-level hire. - Candidates lack sufficient technical depth, particularly in OS administration and security, where a minimum of 5 years of experience is required. - Essential knowledge includes OS management, security, automation, disaster recovery, backups, and high availability. - Programming and scripting skills are also desired to integrate Linux into a DevOps environment. - A total of 500 Linux servers require support, with Puppet being a critical component. - Foundational knowledge of core operating systems is a must. - The previous senior platform engineer was responsible for Puppet, but it is currently unmanaged, and a replacement is needed. - Experience with Ansible could be valuable, as it may replace Puppet. - Candidates should have hands-on experience writing Puppet modules, indicating a deeper understanding of Puppet. - Previous experience should include managing 50 to 100+ Linux servers for a significant period. - Disaster recovery plan development and experience in managing security, storage, and networking are essential. - Specific technical tasks include creating firewall rules on Red Hat Linux servers and handling logical volume management. Section 2: Interview Questions for Candidates 1. How deeply were you involved with disaster recovery in your previous roles 2. What specific responsibilities did you have in disaster recovery 3. Did you participate in setting up disaster recovery plans or make additions to existing ones 4. Were you primarily responsible for ensuring smooth disaster recovery operations or coordinating with other teams Section 3: Additional Notes - The company utilizes a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) to run the mills and manage finances from machines. - Learning software includes PSI and Quad. - The position is for a Linux Engineer, working with Windows 2012 and 2016. - Candidates are expected to have a manufacturing background, but they will receive training in industry-specific software. - Familiarity with tools like Terraform, Puppet, Red Dog, and open-source codes is advantageous. Section 4: Onsite Work Details - The candidate will be working onsite three days a week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays). - Working hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. - The dress code is business casual, allowing jeans but not T-shirts. - Onsite amenities include a gym and a refurbished building during COVID. - Lunch is often catered in. BASIC FUNCTIONS: The responsibilities of the Platform Engineer- MES role includes but are not limited to installing, configuring and maintaining Windows & Linux servers in the Cloud or OnPrem environments; performing software installations, patches, and upgrades as well as system backup and recovery, analyzing, troubleshooting and resolving system hardware, software and networking issues; and configuring, debugging and supporting multiple infrastructure platforms. This individual will be required to work closely with members of the NBT Technology Services team and NBT subject matter experts, technical staff, and project managers. This individual will be required to work nights and weekends as needed.
