This position will be supporting a team focused on unattended retail solutions for clients and consumers across the US. The role will primarily be focused on providing expertise, knowledge and best practices in database management as well as supporting enhancements for our data capacity, writing new programs and scripts, and troubleshooting database code. RESPONSIBILITIES Proactively monitoring databases and related systems to ensure optimized performance. Recommending and implementing solutions for appropriate alerting and notifications. Work with architects and lead Line of Business developers to create and maintain optimal database design. Creating scripts to increase data storage capacity and adherence to data retention standards and documenting the process. Performing debugging procedures on database scripts and programs and resolving conflicts. Review SQL code written by application developers to ensure compliance to coding standards and best practices as well as maximum performance. Documenting processes related to database design, configurations, and performance. Implement proactive monitoring and alerting to ensure operational stability and supportability. Collaborating with data analysts, data scientists, security engineers, and architects to achieve the best possible technical solutions that address our business needs. Coordinate change and release management across technical teams inside and outside the department. Analyzing access patterns and propose the best combination of indexes, constraints, foreign keys, and queries. Keeping abreast of new developments and best practices related to database engineering. Identifying innovative opportunities and assisting with implementing new tools and processes for managing database infrastructure. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum of 5 years of experience in database engineering with Microsoft SQL Server up to SQL Server 2019. In-depth knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL). Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases. Extensive experience working with database technologies and architecture. Sound knowledge of best practices in database engineering and data security. Fluency in relational databases and backup and recovery. Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement. Experience with maintaining source and version control for databases. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Exceptional collaboration and communication skills. Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Proven success in communicating with colleagues, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements and implement solutions. The ability to work independently and in a team environment. NICE TO HAVE Experience working in an Agile / Scrum environment. Comfortable with procedures such as shell scripting and scripting. Experience with databases in AWS. (desired) Experience with ETL and ETL tools. (preferred) Experience with Microsoft Azure DevOps for work item management and CI/CD deployment pipelines. SQL Server Analysis Service/OLAP experience. Experience with Visual Studio and Data Tier Applications. Knowledge of AWS RDS.
