Job Title: 

NIGHT SHIFT Application Support Engineer

End-User:  CareFirst BCBS

Contract Duration: 6 months contract to hire, candidates must reside in MD, DC, VA, PA, DE, WV, NC, NJ, NY, FL, or TX to be considered.

Location: 100% Remote

Visa Restrictions:

 USC, GC, GC-EAD, TN, or H4 (with minimum 2 years left on EAD)

Responsibilities:
Provide 24/7 monitoring and support for IT infrastructure and applications.
Act as backup Shift Lead for DCO monitoring, ensuring efficient and reliable operations.
Proactively detect and prevent service disruptions through real-time monitoring of Mainframe and Distributed systems.
Diagnose and troubleshoot complex problems using established runbooks, escalating as necessary.
Implement changes and fixes with minimal error rate, adhering to established procedures.
Notify Level 2 support teams promptly for further assistance.
Leverage system monitoring and diagnostic tools to optimize system performance.
Initiate and coordinate Health Check calls for problem identification and resolution.

Job Duties:
Manage job schedules and perform restarts on mainframe, Windows, and UNIX platforms.
Monitor Scheduler queues and update Base Calendars.
Build AGENT capabilities and contribute to technology implementations for improved scheduling.
Support application and platform upgrades, as well as scheduling product updates.
Develop and maintain operations manuals, documentation, and procedures.
Contribute to SLA establishment and monitor performance against requirements.
Provide timely information for audit requests and follow IT guidelines for approval.
Offer technical assistance to IT Operations, Service Desk, and Programming teams.
Research, resolve, and recommend solutions for complex and critical systems.
Collaborate with vendor technical support and other IT engineers on various tasks.
Participate in Data Center Operations initiatives, including disaster recovery and training.
Continuously improve technical skillsets through training and industry best practices.
Provide cross-training support and 24/7 on-call assistance.

Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in software development, with expertise in coding, architecture/design, user requirements, and specification development.
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or relevant field (4+ years of experience may substitute for degree).
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with diverse audiences.
Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
Solid understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC).
Proficiency in integrating complex and existing systems.
Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., JavaScript, C, Python).
Advanced understanding of cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure).
Familiarity with database technologies (e.g., cloud, SQL, Oracle, MongoDB).
Knowledge of software engineering best practices, agile methodologies, and CI/CD pipelines.
Experience with test-first practices (TDD, BDD).
Strong expertise in Deployment/CI/CD processes and tools.
Knowledge of code quality and promotion practices.
